Job Description

This role supports pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, assisting in various pharmacy department activities to ensure quality patient care. Pharmacy technicians follow established procedures and guidelines to maintain efficient workflow. Key Responsibilities Assist in medication preparation including selecting, counting, compounding, reconstituting, packaging, and labeling according to departmental protocols. Maintain and replenish medication and supply inventories. Stock emergency crash carts, drug boxes, and specialty floor-stocked items throughout the healthcare system. Provide excellent customer service through proficient telephone triage. Support healthcare team members with professionalism and courtesy. Handle intervention messages and process medication requests per procedures. Demonstrate critical thinking to identify urgent situations and complete tasks promptly to avoid patient care delays. Refill and deliver unit dose cart fills, pyxis batches, parenteral TPNs, IV admixtures, and bulk stock items timely to appropriate patient care areas. Ensure timely delivery of narcotics and stock to prevent delays in patient care. Carry assigned phone and remain available to pharmacy staff. Operate automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) for drug distribution, including controlled substances, and manage outdates and product removals. Troubleshoot ADC issues and follow escalation procedures when necessary. Operate automated systems such as compounders, Epic, traysafe, packagers, carousels, and CII safes. Perform sterile and non-sterile compounding following pharmacy procedures once trained. Conduct nursing unit inspections and participate in surveillance programs to eliminate expired medications. Demonstrate versatility by working in various pharmacy areas. Maintain patient and employee confidentiality by securing records and releasing information only to authorized individuals. Assist in precepting and training new pharmacy technicians and students. Perform other duties as assigned. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Registration with the state Board of Pharmacy is required within 30 days of hire. Completion of a formal or Board-approved pharmacy technician program is preferred. Experience Preferred experience ranges from six months to one year as a pharmacy technician. Requirements Ability to work flexible schedules including days, evenings, and third shifts. Strong communication skills with customers and healthcare team members. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy. Team player with the ability to identify urgent situations and act efficiently. Physical ability to perform repetitive motions, lift at least 10 pounds, read physician orders and medication labels, and stand or walk for extended periods. Manual dexterity to operate computer systems. Required licensure: Pharmacy Technician registration with the state Board of Pharmacy.
