City of Elmhurst Employment Opportunity PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TEMPORARY SEASONAL LABORER SUMMER 2026 Position Summary The position performs manual labor related to Public Works maintenance activities. Division tasks include the construction, repair, and maintenance of municipal streets, sidewalks, buildings, electrical systems, underground utilities, fleet, landscaping and trees. This is a temporary seasonal position. Performs various pavement and maintenance tasks including cleaning streets, crack filling, striping and assisting crews with patching potholes, along with removing and replacing asphalt, and concrete streets. Performs landscaping tasks including weeding, parkway restoration and watering new trees. Inspects condition of streetlight poles. Maintains streetscape items in the Central Business District. Performs general custodial work including painting, sweeping, mopping and cleaning. Performs manual labor related to equipment, operation, and maintenance activities. Operates a small variety of light to medium duty construction tools and equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively. Sets up safe work zones, including barricades and flagging traffic. Assists crews with maintenance of underground utilities. Completes routine reports on work performed and equipment used. Requirements Must be enrolled in a high school or undergraduate college education program. Must possess a valid driver's license. Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods in all weather conditions. Ability to lift or carry 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be at least 18 years of age. Work Hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This temporary, seasonal position may work up to 40 hours per week with a start date no later than May 26, 2026 and the season ending no later than September 4, 2026.
