Location: Hattie Mae White Department: Data Science and Analytics Area:Northwest Contract Months:12 Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 Academic Year: 25-26 JOB SUMMARY The Cross-Functional Team Member for Data Science and Analytics oversees the team's efforts in advanced data analysis, survey design, and repo1ting to support Houston ISD's strategic goals within the Office of Academics. This role ensures high-quality insights, drives data-informed decision-making, and delivers solutions that optimize operations and improve outcomes for students, families, and staff. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESManages and executes data projects, including advanced data analysis, survey design, and reporting, by coordinating workflows, setting timelines, and ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables. Supervises team members by providing clear guidance, monitoring progress, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment to achieve project goals and support professional growth. Collaborates with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to identify data needs, define project goals, and deliver impactful solutions that align with district priorities and address key challenges. Leads and executes advanced analytical tasks, including building models, dashboards, and statistical analyses, serving as the team's technical expert in tools like Excel, R, Python, and Power Bl. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUEDEnsures the quality and accuracy of alt deliverables, including documentation, methodologies, and reports, to support transparency, reproducibility, and effective decision-making. Serves as a trusted advisor to the data director by offering analytical expertise, proposing innovative methodologies, and aligning team efforts with strategic goals. Leads the adoption of advanced tools and techniques to ensure the team delivers impactful, data-driven solutions that address district-wide challenges. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree Applicants who do not meet these education qualifications may be considered if they have a unique combination of education and work experience that indicate potential for success in this role. WORK EXPERIENCE At least 3 years working in the district/central office of a large urban school district. SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Microsoft Office SAP Must possess expertise in Excel, R, Python, and Power BI for data analysis and visualization, as well as an advanced understanding of statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques. Proficiency in designing and analyzing surveys using tools like Qualtrics and familiarity with data manipulation and integration using SQL and Power Que1y are essential. Experience with spatial analysis and visualization techniques is also required. This role demands strong leadership skills to guide and mentor a team of data professionals, along with project management expertise to oversee complex data analysis projects. Analytical problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying complex findings to non- technical stakeholders LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Manages. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day direction to staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input to hiring, performance and budget. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis. BUDGET AUTHORITY Complies and organizes data and figures. PROBLEM SOLVING Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD. Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods/procedures/services and generate new ideas. May also review decisions made by other individuals on more routine matters. IMPACT OF DECISIONS Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays. COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Collaborate and solve problems - works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines. WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee toany hazardous or unpleasant elements.
