About This Opportunity: This is an Academy-Only hiring process to identify candidates for Police Recruit Step 1 positions. The City of Longmont will sponsor you and pay you while you attend the Police Academy, covering all accredited academy-related costs required to obtain Colorado POST certification. Job Posting: 20250277 Police Recruit. Status: Regular Full-Time. Schedule: Shift work required. 2026 Pay Structure:Recruit / Step 1: $87,312 annually (41.97 an hour) Step 2: $93,768 annually. (45.08 an hour) Step 3: $99,924 annually. (48.04 an hour) Step 4: $106,092 annually. (51.00 an hour) Step 5: $112,260 annually. (53.97 an hour) Step 6: $118,536 annually. (56.98 an hour) Master Police: $124,464 annually. (59.83 an hour) Step Progression: Steps are awarded on anniversary dates. Footwear not included. Ballistic armor replaced every five years at no cost. Biannual equipment allowance: $200 ($400 annually). Take-Home Vehicle Program: Available after successful completion of Field Training. Residency within 25 miles of city corners required. Bilingual Incentive Pay: Spanish/English bilingual skills are desirable. Supplemental pay of $50-$200 per month for tested proficiency. Principal Duties: In a training capacity, Police Recruits will: Protect life and property through enforcement of laws and City ordinances. Manage conflict and support community safety efforts. Control traffic flow and conduct investigative work. Support special crime prevention, community engagement, and enforcement programs. Work collaboratively with the community to resolve problems and concerns. Perform technical and administrative duties in support of the Department. This position requires completion of a Colorado State-sanctioned training academy or POST equivalency, along with demonstrated personal skills aligned with community values and mission. Position Overview: This is an entry-level classification in the Police Officer series and is distinguished by participation in a formal training program leading to Colorado Peace Officer certification and completion of the Longmont Police Field Training Program. New officers are assigned to the Patrol Services Division, providing 24/7 patrol coverage, enforcing traffic laws, investigating crimes, and engaging in community-based problem-solving. Officers work one of three overlapping 10-hour shifts, ensuring continuous citywide coverage. Days and hours vary by assignment. Education & Experience Requirements:High school diploma or GED and. Minimum of 60 semester hours of college-level credit. The college credit requirement may be waived with a signed agreement to complete 60 semester hours within five years of hire. Additional Requirements:Must be 21 years of age by date of hire. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License. Meet Colorado POST minimum qualifications (CRS 24-31-303, 304, 305). Ability to complete a POST-approved academy and obtain/maintain POST certification. Complete the Longmont Police Field Training Program within one year. Applicants with POST certification who do not qualify for Lateral Officer positions may be considered as Police Recruits. Obtain certifications in CPR, Intoxilyzer, and less-lethal weapon systems. Meet Employment Authorization Requirements per the Colorado POST Board. New hires must sign an agreement for reimbursement of expenses if voluntarily resigning within two years. Selection Process: The selection process includes: Application review. Written exam. Physical Ability Course. Assessment center. Oral and integrity interviews. Background investigation (credit, criminal, and driving history). Fingerprinting. Psychological evaluation. Medical exam and drug screening.
