Nesco Resource is sourcing for a Tomato Chiller Operator for our client in Ferndale, MI. Position Summary: The Tomato Chiller Operator is responsible for safely operating and monitoring the tomato chilling system to ensure product quality, food safety, and efficient production flow. This role involves equipment setup, product handling, quality checks, and adherence to safety and operational procedures. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and verify production setup, including valves, tubing, and system readiness Log into and operate the chilling system via HMI (Human Machine Interface) Stage raw materials (tomatoes) for processing Open totes and handle product according to established procedures Collect product samples using proper sanitary methods Test samples for pH and temperature using designated measuring devices Accurately document quality and testing results Operate pumping and chilling systems to transfer product Select and control system functions as required (System 1 or 2) Maintain continuous awareness of food safety and product integrity Follow all plant safety rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs) Safety & Compliance Duties: Adhere to all food safety, personal safety, and risk control standards Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE) Report equipment issues, hazards, or product concerns immediately Maintain clean and organized work areas Required PPE (as applicable): Safety glasses / goggles / face shield Hearing protection Gloves (cut-resistant, cooler gloves, or task-specific) Non-slip or steel-toe footwear Protective clothing (lab coat, cooler coat, sleeves, apron) Hair net and beard cover (if applicable) High water-resistant boots when required Qualifications & Skills: Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety rules Basic equipment operation and mechanical awareness Comfort working in production and temperature-controlled environments Attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping Ability to work independently and within a team Basic understanding of quality checks and measurements preferred Work Environment: Food production / manufacturing facility Exposure to wet, cold, and noisy conditions Standing, walking, and light material handling required Nesco Resource offers a comprehensive benefits package for our associates, which includes a MEC (Minimum Essential Coverage) plan that encompasses Medical, Vision, Dental, 401K, and EAP (Employee Assistance Program) services.
