Job Story When students encounter challenges in mathematics courses, the Math Peer Tutor provides structured academic support to help them strengthen their understanding and problem-solving skills. The Peer Tutor delivers one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions covering topics ranging from foundational math concepts to advanced coursework. By offering clear explanations, modeling effective problem-solving strategies, and reinforcing key concepts, the tutor assists students in achieving course objectives and developing confidence in their mathematical abilities. In this role, the tutor collaborates with academic support programs and other tutors to ensure consistent and high-quality assistance. The tutor also promotes independent learning by encouraging critical thinking and guiding students toward effective study habits. Job Summary A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms. Required Education High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University. Additional Requirements Must have and maintain a GPA of AT LEAST 3.0 or higher. Must be a sophomore or higher in college. Required Experience This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences. Preferred Qualifications Mathematics major, engineering major, or related field. Physical Requirements Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
