Position DescriptionPosition Overview The Mold Maker plays a critical role within Applied Medical's Research and Development organization by leading the construction of injection molds and prototype components that support new medical device development. This role combines advanced technical expertise with project leadership to ensure molds and research and development components are built accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with engineering specifications and quality standards. The mold maker directs machining and support teams through complex workflows, enabling smooth process flow and timely project execution. Key Responsibilities Lead and guide the construction of injection molds and research and development components in accordance with engineering drawings, routing sheets, and manufacturing instructions. Coordinate machining, inspection, and design teams to ensure clear communication and efficient project progression. Identify, prioritize, and sequence tasks to manage component flow through the shop and meet development timelines. Create detailed routing sheets that define the full component construction process from start to completion. Prepare prototype components by mounting on pallets and ensuring proper fixturing for repeatable machining results. Monitor build progress and proactively address technical or scheduling challenges. Maintain compliance with quality system regulations, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines. Success in This Role Looks Like Delivering fully functional molds and prototype components that meet engineering intent and quality requirements. Establishing clear, repeatable workflows that improve efficiency across machining and inspection teams. Leading complex projects independently while maintaining alignment with engineering and leadership stakeholders. Communicating priorities, risks, and progress effectively across cross functional teams. Supporting continuous improvement in mold making and prototype development processes. This position requires the following skills and attributes: Five or more years of experience in injection mold making or mold building within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate machining and tooling teams through complex builds. Proven experience developing routing sheets, schedules, and workflows for mold and component construction. Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple priorities and maintain efficient process flow. Technical aptitude with strong attention to detail and craftsmanship. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-based environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for cross functional collaboration. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English for documentation and communication. Basic computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Position RequirementsThis position requires the following skills and attributes: Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in machining or manufacturing trades. Ability to read, write, and speak in English for effective communication and documentation. Technical, hands-on approach to learning and solving basic manufacturing challenges. Completion of a machinist trade school program or community college machinist certification. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to lift fifty pounds as required for materials and tooling. PreferredThe following skills and attributes are preferred: Technical trade school training or equivalent hands-on technical experience. Experience operating or supporting CNC machining equipment. Background in manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, extrusion, and stamping. Experience supporting medical device development or other regulated manufacturing environments. Demonstrated creative problem solving and adaptability in dynamic project environments. Ability to reprioritize tasks and projects based on changing development needs.
