CMM Operator / Line InspectorLocation: Indianapolis, IN Pay Rate: $36-40/hr Shift: 2nd Shift | 3:15 PM - 11:45 PM Position Summary The CMM Operator / Line Inspector is responsible for performing precision inspection activities to ensure aerospace components meet strict quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Supporting programs for major aerospace customers, this role utilizes Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), precision measurement equipment, and visual inspection techniques to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of flight-critical hardware within a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect complex aerospace components and assemblies Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections per engineering drawings and specifications Interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) requirements to validate dimensional compliance Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using precision tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges Verify materials, part numbers, and documentation to ensure full traceability and compliance Accurately document inspection results within quality systems and inspection reports Identify nonconforming conditions and support root cause analysis and corrective actions Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to resolve product quality issues Provide timely inspection feedback to support production flow and schedule adherence Maintain inspection equipment calibration and proper handling procedures Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards, customer requirements, and internal procedures Participate in continuous improvement and quality initiatives Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Experience operating CMM equipment and/or performing manufacturing inspections Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications Working knowledge of GD&T principles Experience using precision measurement instruments Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting Ability to work independently and within a team environment Preferred Qualifications Aerospace or flight-hardware inspection experience Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality management systems Experience with CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, or similar platforms Experience performing First Article Inspection (FAI) to AS9102 standards Exposure to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments Ability to support customer audits and inspections Work Environment Aerospace manufacturing and production floor environment Extended standing and handling of precision components may be required Work performed under strict safety and quality standards Fast-paced environment supporting tight production schedules Key Success Factors Strong commitment to quality and safety in flight-critical manufacturing Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability Effective communication across cross-functional teams Ability to maintain accuracy under production deadlines Dependable work ethic and reliability Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE), including Disability/Veterans #HRUSkills
