SUMMARY: An employee in this class uses acetylene andelectric arc welding equipment (i.e., MIG, TIG and standard) other standardtools related to the trade. Work is performed following general workinstructions according to established trade and shop practices. The employeeexercises some discretion regarding specific procedures and work methods tocomplete a given assignment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Read and intrepid blueprints and working shop drawings. Measurements using a tape measure or other measuring equipment. Visually inspect welds to determine compliance with standards. Observe or monitor objects to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. Clean equipment using appropriate materials. • Abilityto follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision. • Complywith all company rules, safety policies and procedures. • Abilityto continually prioritize tasks to be completed as requires. • Self-starterand multi-task oriented. EDUCATION AND/OREXPERIENCE One year of experience as a skilled welder, orthe completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship. Other combinations ofexperience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.The ability to certify according to the requirements of the A.W.S. and C.W.B.welding codes. LANGUAGE SKILLS Abilityto read and comprehend blueprints, instructions, short correspondence, andmemos. Ability to effectively presentinformation in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, andother associates of the organization. MATHEMATICALSKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and dividein all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, anddecimals. REASONINGABILITY Ability to apply common sense understandingwhile carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagramform. Possess the ability to deal withproblems involving several variables in various situations. PHYSICALDEMANDS The physical demands described here arerepresentative of those which must be met by an employee to successfullyperform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularlyrequired to speak and hear. The employee frequently is required to use handsand fingers to handle or feel objects or controls and reach with hands andarms. The employee is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee mustoccasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilitiesrequired by this job include close vision. WORKENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, theemployee is frequently exposed to moving machining equipment, moving mechanicalparts, dirt, oil, grease, metal shavings, and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed toextreme heat and there is always the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment issometimes loud with exposures ranging from 80db to more than 100 db at certaintimes. Specified safety equipment shallbe used at all times while operating equipment or performing tasks within thisposition. Shift and hours may vary dueto machine breakdowns and projects. IMPORTANT: Eye protection, hearing protection andsteel toed shoes are required while present in designated areas of themanufacturing environment.
