Electrical & Controls Engineer II Waterville, Ohio Full Time The Electrical & Controls Engineer II is a high-impact technical role responsible for improving automation systems, increasing equipment reliability, and driving performance-focused electrical and controls engineering initiatives across the Waterville Complex. This position is critical to the operation of all assets within the facility and supports a 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation. The role leans heavily toward controls engineering, including PLC, VFD, and HMI programming, daily plant controls support, capital projects, system upgrades, and advanced troubleshooting. The engineer will work closely with electricians, electrical supervisors, superintendents, and operations leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Key Focus Areas Day-to-day plant controls support and troubleshooting PLC / VFD / HMI programming and optimization Capital and plant-driven controls projects Replacement and modernization of obsolete drives and control systems Networked control systems support Reliability, safety, and continuous improvement Key Performance Objectives Drive Equipment Reliability & Reduce Downtime Implement engineered improvements to reduce unplanned downtime and enhance long-term control system reliability. Lead and perform root cause analysis (RCA) to eliminate recurring electrical and controls failures. Lead Full-Cycle Engineering Projects Independently scope, justify, design, implement, and close electrical and controls projects. Deliver complete project documentation including: Engineering designs and drawings Calculations and specifications Cost estimates and schedules Commissioning and startup plans Coordinate and manage vendors, contractors, and external engineering partners. Optimize Controls & Automation Performance Improve PLC, HMI, VFD, and networked control system performance to drive measurable operational improvements. Identify automation performance gaps and lead engineered solutions for sustained gains. Support coordinated drive upgrades, including large-scale drive replacement projects (e.g., mat line and wind-up systems). Enhance Safety & Standards Compliance Support and strengthen electrical safety initiatives, including NFPA 70E compliance. Ensure all electrical integrations, upgrades, and automation systems meet corporate engineering standards and regulatory requirements. Provide Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Support Mentor electricians, technicians, and junior engineers to elevate plant troubleshooting and automation capability. Communicate technical risks, project progress, and system impacts clearly to plant leadership and cross-functional teams. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Minimum 3 years of electrical and/or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong hands-on experience with: PLC systems (Allen-Bradley preferred) HMI systems VFDs / drives Industrial networking and controls systems Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. Proven analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Ability to support a 24/7 continuous operations manufacturing facility.
