Requisition ID: 48441 Work Location: Human Services - Witchduck Annex Pay Range: A.13, $65,998.40 - $102,297.52 Starting Salary: Depending upon Qualifications Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm Part Time Hours/Wk: Job Open Date: 2/18/26 Application Deadline: 3/4/26Job Duties: The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire an Educator II who has experience working in the substance abuse field and providing trainings and presentations to community organizations for the SA Prevention program in the Behavioral Health Division. The selected candidate will develop, implement, and provide consultation in prevention programming and substance use education. This position acts as a lead facilitator for several programs such as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), SafeTALK, Question. Persuade. Refer. (QPR), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Project Towards No Drugs (TND), General drug education, Anti-bullying, REVIVE, or other programming as developed and assigned. Duties: Collaborate with the SAIP Program Lead to implement a substance abuse curriculum. Network and participate in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug awareness campaigns. Provide support to all Prevention trainings and substance use/abuse education groups as required. Responsible for training members who work within their immediate team and will be cross trained on diverse Prevention programs. Participate in health and resource fairs, and other community events for the purpose of providing anti substance use messages. Assist with providing orientation or information to parents, teachers and school administrators when requested. Versatile in presentation skills to meet the needs of consumers and the community. Conduct merchant education for Lock and Talk Virginia and Synar DBHDS mandated priorities. Comply with the Community Services Board Administrative requirement to complete 20 hours of Prevention specific training annually. Support BHWPS sponsored events and conferences during the evening and occasional weekend hours. All staff hours will be entered in the Prevention Based Performance System (PBPS) data system. Attend and support the Youth and Community Action Team (YCAT) substance abuse community coalition meeting to represent the Human Services Department efforts to implement environmental strategies and community level change. Official City Job Description: Working Conditions: Minimum Requirements: MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as teacher, health educator, administrator, or counselor preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the Citys operational status. One (1) year experience working in the substance abuse field. Two (2) years' experience providing training/presentation as a primary job function. Two (2) years' experience working with youth in a school or community setting. Exp. w/ Prevention Programming, REVIVE, Bullying, SafeTALK, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Project Towards No Drugs (TND), or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
