Position Summary: The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department/Division/Program of Orthopaedic is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within both the inpatient and outpatient setting. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI and Menominee Falls, WI at Froedtert Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. Position Highlights: 2 Days in the OR 2.5 Days in the Clinic Core Responsibilities: Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status. Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests. Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans. Monitors effectiveness of plan of care. Educates patients on disease and treatment plans. Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed. Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents. Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate. Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors. Department Specific Responsibilities: Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment Orthopaedic surgery patients in a primarily inpatient environment. Writes accurate and timely H&Ps, progress notes, consult notes, procedure notes, discharge summaries and/or admission, discharge and transfer orders. Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information. Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Orthopaedic surgery services, such as, but not exclusive to, wound care and drain management. Management in perioperative period. Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care. Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission. Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard. Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature. Develops an expertise in the coordination and delivery of care to patients on the orthopaedic surgery service. Collaborates with cross-department specialty care teams as well as primary care providers in consultative care of patients with orthopaedic surgery needs. Highly desired previous experience in acute care, surgical specialties or medicine teams such as hospitalist, internal medicine, perioperative, cardiology and emergency. Minimum Education: Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization. Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
