Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Fiber Placement Technician (Underground & Aerial) to join our team in New York City and New Jersey. This full-time role requires working nights, weekends, and overtime as needed. The Fiber Placement Technician will be responsible for installing and placing fiber optic cables in underground conduit systems, manholes, and aerial pathways, including work within the NYC Empire City Subway (ECS) system and aerial cabling on poles and strand throughout NJ and NYC. Key Responsibilities Install and place fiber optic cable in underground conduit systems and manholes. Perform cable pulls within the NYC Empire City Subway (ECS) system. Conduct aerial fiber placement on poles and strand. Assist with innerduct installation and securing cable pathways. Operate fiber pulling equipment; experience with the capstan wheel is a plus. Work safely in confined spaces and at heights. Set up and maintain traffic control when required. Read and interpret fiber route prints and construction drawings. Adhere to all NYC, NJ, ECS, and OSHA safety standards. Maintain accurate labeling and job documentation. Coordinate effectively with supervisors, inspectors, and field crews. Required Qualifications 2-5 years of experience as a Fiber Placement Technician (Underground & Aerial). Experience working in the NYC ECS (Empire City Subway) system is preferred. OSHA 30 Certification (Required). NYC SST (Site Safety Training) Card (Required). Client will cover OSHA 30 and SST training if not currently held. Valid Driver's License. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. Ability to work night shifts, common in NYC construction. Additional Employment Requirement Upon employment commencement, candidates must obtain a valid Medical DOT Card. StarCom Fiber will facilitate and coordinate this process. Preferred Qualifications Experience pulling fiber using a capstan wheel. Experience working with ECS inspectors and NYC DOT. Confined Space Certification. Experience in dense urban construction environments. Work Environment Underground manholes and conduit systems. Aerial work on poles and strand. Outdoor construction in active city streets. Frequent night work required. Exposure to weather and traffic conditions.
