Position Overview: The RN House Supervisor is a pivotal clinical and operational leader responsible for overseeing hospital activities across all departments during assigned shifts. This role ensures seamless operations by providing guidance, support, and oversight to staff while maintaining continuity of care and operational efficiency. Serving as the primary contact for administrative matters after hours, the House Supervisor communicates significant events to the Administrator on Call and fosters effective collaboration among departments. Acting as a resource in complex clinical situations, this position supports safe, high-quality, patient-centered care for diverse populations. Essential Responsibilities: Engage compassionately with patients and families to ensure a positive care experience, offering clear explanations and emotional support. Adapt care procedures to meet the unique needs of patients across all age groups, from neonates to older adults. Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and self in line with safety standards and policies. Respect and respond to patients' psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and individual needs with dignity. Deliver care prioritizing safety and minimizing medical errors. Promote a culture of safety, quality improvement, and accountability. Provide administrative oversight in the absence of executive leadership, ensuring operational continuity and timely issue resolution. Escalate critical patient care, safety, or operational concerns to the Administrator on Call as needed. Facilitate effective communication and coordination across hospital departments, physician teams, and external agencies. Manage patient flow by coordinating admissions based on clinical acuity and bed availability. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, risk management, and patient safety protocols, reporting concerns promptly. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, updating care plans to support optimal outcomes and transitions. Ensure appropriate nursing coverage for labor and postpartum care; assist as a second RN in OB when necessary. Collaborate with surgical and OB teams after hours to coordinate emergent procedures and transfers. Serve as a resource for respiratory care during off-hours, proficient in BiPAP, ventilator management, and arterial blood gas collection. Foster a learning environment by mentoring staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members through formal and informal education. Education and Experience: Minimum Education: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required. Required Certifications: Current State RN license and Basic Life Support (BLS). Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or at least 2 years of charge nurse or leadership experience demonstrating strong leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree and certifications such as ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP are advantageous. Professional Requirements: Maintain all regulatory requirements and licensure. Demonstrate punctuality and complete work within designated timelines. Exhibit communication skills that are courteous, respectful, and helpful to patients, guests, and staff. This role is based in a regional healthcare setting within the Pacific Northwest, offering a supportive and inclusive work environment dedicated to quality patient care and staff development.
