Sr. Backend Software Engineer (Python, Django, AWS) | Data Platforms | Reliability | Integrations Location: On-site, Laguna Hills, CA Job Type: Full-Time About Recall Masters Recall Masters is a leading B2B technology company in the automotive industry. We build data-driven software and operational workflows that improve recall outreach, customer engagement, and operational efficiency for dealer and OEM partners. Our core platform supports customer data management, service delivery operations, reporting, marketing campaign measurement, call center activity tracking, and ETL processes. Role overview We are hiring a Sr. Backend Software Engineer to own robustness, scalability, and security across our backend services. This is a senior role focused on building resilient, data-heavy systems in AWS. You will work closely with our CoFounder and Chief Architect, Chris Miller, to design and ship new capabilities, improve performance and reliability, and strengthen the architecture and operational maturity of the platform. Hiring Manager Chris Miller, CoFounder and Chief Architect Key responsibilities Build and maintain backend services using Python and Django Design secure authorization and access control patterns Improve scalability, performance, and reliability for cloud-based applications in AWS Optimize data-heavy workflows and query performance (PostgreSQL, Redshift; Dremio as applicable) Implement event-driven or asynchronous processing patterns where appropriate Build and maintain third-party integrations with strong failure handling (retries, idempotency, monitoring) Improve observability, including logging, metrics, alerting, and operational dashboards Partner cross-functionally to translate needs into feasible solutions and clear deliverables Maintain disciplined engineering workflows using Jira, GitHub, and CircleCI pipelines Requirements 3+ years of backend development experience Strong Python skills and backend engineering fundamentals Production experience with Django AWS experience required, including development and operations of cloud applications Experience solving security, authorization, scalability, and testability challenges Experience with third-party integrations Strong communication and collaboration skills Proven ownership and ability to deliver complete solutions independently Preferred qualifications AWS Lambda experience PostgreSQL and Redshift performance optimization experience Dremio experience Familiarity with monolithic and microservice architectures Event-driven backend implementation experience Experience with Jira, GitHub, and CircleCI CI/CD pipelines Affinity for infrastructure and proposing cloud solution ideas to improve scalability and reliability What success looks like in the first 90 days Ship a substantial backend improvement that improves speed, reliability, or security Improve one critical data workflow end-to-end (performance, throughput, cost efficiency, or stability) Strengthen observability in a key service area (metrics, logging, and alerting) Deliver a hardened integration or event-driven workflow with robust failure handling and test coverage Perks and benefits Medical, dental, and vision coverage Paid time off and sick time 401(k) retirement plan Life insurance and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Wellness benefit Dog-friendly office with free snacks and drinks Breakroom games (ping pong, pool, and more) Community service and giving-back initiatives Local team and family-friendly events Career advancement with ongoing learning opportunities Other requirements Must be able to work onsite at the Recall Masters office in Laguna Hills, CA.
