Weekends required The City of Wilmington is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Position Description Do you enjoy working outdoors and taking pride in keeping public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming? The city is looking for a Facilities Technician in their Parks and Landscaping Department to assist in the installation, inspection, and ongoing maintenance of amenities in City parks and public facilities. Responsibilities include inspecting playgrounds; performing repairs and preventative maintenance; removing graffiti; cleaning courts; painting; collecting trash; replacing parts on equipment and seating areas; replenishing mulch and sod; and completing inspection reports. Additional duties include general landscaping tasks, debris removal, assisting during natural disasters, preparing for special events, and providing support to other City departments as needed. Typical TasksMaintain designated City facilities and park areas by inspecting playgrounds and amenities to ensure safety and cleanliness. Perform routine maintenance tasks, including graffiti removal, painting, cleaning courts, marking athletic fields, and collecting trash and debris. Conduct repairs and preventative maintenance on playground equipment, seating areas, and related facilities, including replacing parts as needed. Maintain landscaped areas by replacing mulch and sod and performing general landscaping duties. Complete required inspection reports and documentation on a weekly basis. Assist with irrigation, special projects, and maintenance activities as assigned. Support other City departments, assist with special events, and provide aid during natural disasters as needed. QualificationsEducation and Experience : High School Diploma or GED and minimum of six months relevant experience maintaining landscapes and/or amenities Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license. Ability to use an assortment of power tools used in landscape maintenance Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions This position will also be required to work weekends as well as before, during and after emergency situations (including inclement weather Supplemental InformationPHYSICAL DEMANDS: Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly. Health Benefits are offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week. Health Insurance - The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage. Dental Insurance - Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire. Employees, their spouse and dependent children are eligible for coverage. Life Insurance - The city pays to provide coverage valued at one times your annual salary. Supplemental insurance is available for employees to purchase. Optional coverage for dependents is also available for purchase. Retirement: - NC Local Government Retirement System -All benefits eligible employees make a mandatory 6% contribution every pay period. - Deferred Compensation - The city contributes an amount equal to 4.5% of the annual salary to a 401(k) plan regardless of employee contribution. Employees may choose to contribute additional money to the 401(k) or 457 deferred compensation plans, without a match from the City, within the IRS guidelines. Paid Leave (offered to employees working at least 1,000 hours annually): - Sick Leave - 12 days accrued each year - Annual Leave - Accrual based on years of service and classification. Employees can earn from 10 to 24 days each year. - Holidays - 13 paid holidays annually - Paid Parental Leave - Six weeks of paid leave for the birth, adoption or placement of a child (must run concurrently with FMLA).
