Position Type: Student Support Services/School Nurse Date Posted: 1/28/2026 Location: Ottawa Area Center (OAC) Date Available: 01/28/2026 Closing Date: Until filled 1:1 Nurse (RN or LPN)Job Summary: The 1:1 Nurse provides individualized nursing and health-related services to a student enrolled in a center-based special education program. Working independently and in collaboration with special education staff, the Nurse ensures the student's medical needs are met safely and effectively, supporting the student's ability to access and participate in educational programming throughout the school day. Essential Job Functions: Provide direct, one-to-one nursing care to an assigned student Implement and monitor the student's Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP) Administer medications and perform nursing procedures in accordance with state regulations and district policies Monitor, assess, and document the student's health status and communicate changes to appropriate staff and families as required Support activities of daily living (ADLs), which may include feeding, toileting, hygiene, positioning, and mobility Respond to medical emergencies and implement emergency care plans as needed Collaborate with teachers, therapists, administrators, and support staff to promote student safety and participation Maintain accurate health records and ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district policies Provide guidance and support to school staff regarding the student's medical needs Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment, including proper use of medical and protective equipment Accompany the assigned student during transportation to and from the program, including riding the school bus as required, to provide medical monitoring, support, and ensure the student's health and safety during transit. Other duties as assigned Education and Experience: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), as required by the position Valid state nursing license in good standing Experience working with children with special needs and/or medically fragile students preferred CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) Required Skills and Abilities: Strong clinical assessment and nursing skills Ability to work independently and make sound medical judgments in a school setting Excellent communication and documentation skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Patience, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm in emergency situations Reliable attendance and punctuality Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, transfer, and position students, with or without assistance (typically up to 50 pounds) Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods Ability to perform nursing tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical stamina Compensation and Details: Pay: LPN: GL14 starting at $27.07 RN: GL16 starting at $68,800 Schedule: Full-time, Full Year, 195 days per year for RN, 202 days for LPN Employee Group: Non-union salary Benefits: Full benefits package, including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.
