Apply for Job Job ID 84324 Location Sacramento Full/Part Time Full Time Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job Job SummaryThis position reports to the Chair of the Eye Center with a dotted line to the School of Medicine Executive Assistant Dean. Position has responsibility for the School of Medicine academic department, including financial oversight of all departmental operations. It is the role of the CAO to oversee the balancing of the financial requirements of the academic department to meet the common goals of the School of Medicine and UCD Health. Responsibilities include acting on behalf of the Chair on all issues, except those related to patient care (which must be directed by a physician). This position has jurisdiction over academic and staff personnel, with direct jurisdiction over all staff personnel and indirect jurisdiction over academic personnel. This position has 5 direct reports and 14 indirect reports. In addition, this position has responsibility for oversight of administrative functions for 25 fulltime faculty (19 clinical and 6 research) and 4 clinical fellows. The position also supports the Program Directors for residency training, which includes 16 residents. All outpatient services for the department are provided by faculty and residents at four different sites: the Ophthalmology clinic at the Ernest E. Tschannen Eye Institute, Community Physician Group (CPG) sites in Roseville, Folsom, and Davis, and telemedicine outreach programs. Patient visits for FY 25-26 are projected at 55,000+ which makes the Eye Center second only to Internal Medicine and Radiology as the largest outpatient clinic in both visits and outpatient revenue. The position requires fiscal responsibility and oversight of the administration of approximately $22M in funds from a wide variety of fund sources including state funds, clinical income, gifts, and private and government grants and contracts. Minimum of 5 years' experience in business or financial management, preferably in an academic healthcare setting. Experience in managing complex departmental operations, including financial account management, budgeting, HR, and strategic planning. Experience negotiating contracts and managing external partnerships. Proven experience in faculty compensation design, academic financial operations, and clinical practice management. Advanced leadership skills in developing and implementing strategic business plans. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders. Advanced ability to lead effectively during organizational change. Excellent ability to collaborate with other senior management and executive-level staff, to develop and implement objectives, goals, budgets, strategic plans, policies, and priorities, and to measure and evaluate operations in conjunction with them. Advanced ability to develop, communicate, and implement strategic plans. Advanced skill in HR administration. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in hospital administration, business administration, or health-related field. Extensive experience in business development within a clinical healthcare environment. Comprehensive understanding of health plan contracting and the California healthcare regulatory environment. Demonstrated expertise in financial analytics, benchmarking, and operational metrics. Patient care must receive the highest priority with the best possible service in all areas of Ophthalmological care. In addition, the teaching of residents, medical students and postgraduate continuing medical education physicians must be facilitated. Ph.D's and M.D.'s are joined in mutual research efforts to seek new knowledge in the treatment and prevention of blinding eye disease.
