JOB DESCRIPTION Housekeeping Staff Department: Environmental Services FLSA Classification: Non - Exempt Reports to: Director of Environmental Services Overview of the Position: The Housekeeping Staff provide the day-to-day housekeeping in the facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility and to assure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. Full time role $20 per hour depending on experience Duties and Responsibilities: Administrative Functions: Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical. Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be (NOTE: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.) Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas. Admission, Transfer, and Discharge Functions: For an admission, review the overall cleanliness of the room. Assure that all equipment is functional, clean and in good condition. Report problems to your supervisor. When a resident is discharged, sanitize the mattress, thoroughly, clean the bed, bed rails, over-bed table, side table, clothing locker and drawers. Advise your supervisor of the status of the paint, blinds, etc Staff Development: Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed. Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training for hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standard. Housekeeping Services Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned. Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments. Clean/polish furnishing, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in resident rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed. Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed from fixtures. Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways. Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.) Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting. Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc. Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions. Clean hallways. Clean outdoor areas as assigned. Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner. Clean vacant rooms as assigned. Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored (locked when necessary) at all times as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of the work day. Perform isolation cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection control procedures. Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers. Environmental Conditions: Primarily inside work, normal to above-normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure and potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24 hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff. HIPAA is a law that must be followed by all healthcare personnel at every level. This position is a Mandated Reporter regarding the suspicion of elder abuse and may have access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
