CHEROKEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, SOUTH CAROLINA JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: SUMMER READING CAMP ADMINISTRATOR at BD Lee Elementary Dates of Summer Employment: June 4, 2026 - July 1, 2026Two Professional Development Days in May and Two Days After Summer Reading Camp EndsLength of Contract: Four-Week Program (4 days per week/hours per day to be determined)$50 per hour rateGENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB The Summer Reading Camp Administratorisresponsible for the overall leadership, safety, and academic success of Cherokee County School District's literacy-focused summer reading program. This role bridges the gap between educational instruction and camp operations. Oversees assigned personnel and ensures they follow school and District guidelines and objectives. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Provides leadership in the coordination, implementation and improvement of the school's reading camp program, and assisting with other administrative functions as assigned. Supervises subordinate staff; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness, accuracy and adherence to district policies; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed. Works with teachers in assessing instructional problem areas and finding appropriate solutions; encourages teachers to use new methods and materials where appropriate for the improvement of instruction; helps plan and implement new instructional programs or procedures. Instructional Oversight: Supervise classroom instruction to ensure literacy standards are met. This includes facilitating pre- and post-reading assessments to track student progress. Staff Management: Recruit, screen, and hire professional teachers and paraprofessionals. Administrators also conduct staff orientation and provide ongoing leadership and performance evaluations. Student Support: Manage student enrollment, track daily attendance, and handle disciplinary issues. Administrators often communicate directly with parents regarding student goals and achievements. Operations & Safety: Develop camp policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness plans. They oversee the health, safety, and welfare of all campers while on-site. Administrative Duties: Control the operating budget, manage payroll for staff, and maintain accurate academic records. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Monitors classes as necessary. Performs routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, preparing rooms for meetings and activities, checking/securing doors, etc. Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Requires a master's degree in education administration supplemented by at least two years of administrative experience. Must possess a valid education administration certificate from the South Carolina State Board of Education. Must possess a valid state driver's license.
