Position Overview The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects from initiation through closeout. Operating in a dynamic and technical environment, this role manages all aspects of project planning, execution, and delivery to ensure outcomes align with scope, budget, and timeline, while maintaining compliance with regulatory and quality standards. Working closely with cross-functional teams, clients, and senior leadership, the Senior Project Manager plays a critical role in supporting operationalexcellence, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to continuous improvement and business development efforts. The Senior Project Manager in this role will oversee projects, clients and junior staff in both the Charlottesville and Blacksburg, VA offices. ResponsibilitiesLead the full lifecycle of multiple concurrent projects, from pre-construction/estimation through final closeout, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, and risk management strategies. Coordinate and communicate with clients, internal teams, subcontractors, and consultants to align objectives, manage expectations, and ensure project requirements are met. Monitor project progress and performance, tracking milestones, deliverables, and financials to identify variances and implement corrective actions as needed. Oversee contract administration, permitting, and regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local requirements. Lead project meetings, facilitate decision-making, and maintain clear, organized documentation and reporting for internal and external stakeholders. Provide leadership and guidance to project teams, mentoring junior staff and promoting best practices in project execution and team collaboration. Support business development activities including proposal development, scope definition, and client presentations. Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhancements to project management processes, tools, and workflows. Act as the main point of contact for escalated issues, proactively resolving conflicts to ensure project continuity and client satisfaction. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or PMP certification preferred. 7+ years of progressive project management experience, preferably within engineering, environmental, or construction industries. Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex, and high-impact projects in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment. Proficient in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar, and Microsoft Office Suite. In-depth knowledge of project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels. Experience managing project financials, contracts, and vendor relationships. Ability to travel to job sites and regional offices as needed. Self-directed, highly organized, and capable of managing competing priorities in a matrixed or decentralized organization. Preferred QualificationsEngineer-in-Training (EI/EIT) license with the expectation of Professional Engineer (PE) license within 1 year. #LI-MD1 Travel RequirementsThis position requires regular travel as part of its primary responsibilities mainly between the Charlottesville and Blacksburg, VA offices and job sites as required. Travel, when necessary, will be communicated in advance and aligned with business needs. Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring flexibility to work effectively from both a professional office and work site setting. On-site Office Requirements: Work is performed at a desk for extended perionds using a computer, phone and standard office equipment in a climate-controlled office environment. Regular in-person communication with team members, clients and stakeholders is required. Physical demands may includ sitting for long durations, occassional standing, walking, bending and lifting of materials up to 15 pounds. Work conducted outdoors with exposure to outdoor conditions, including: Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, construction zones and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush and debris. Moderate to loud noise levels due to lab equipment, field operations and construction environments. Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, sun, heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions as part of field sample collection and testing. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry between 35-75 lbs. of equipment or samples over distances up to 75 feet. Ability to stand, walk, drive and operate lab and field equipment for extended periods. Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and balance as needed during both lab and field work. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats in varied environments, often while wearing PPE. Ability to use sensory capabilities to see (including close and distant vision, color perception, depth perception, and focus) and smell for observation and safety purposes.
