Position Type: Athletics/Activities/Athletic Trainer Date Posted: 12/17/2025 Location: High School Date Available: Summer 2025 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Bandera High School is looking for an experienced Athletic Trainer for the 2026-2027 School Year.Bandera ISD is a 4-Day Instructional Week District. Reports to: Athletic Director/Principal Pay Grade: Based upon creditable experience as per the Bandera ISD Teacher Pay Scale / Additional Athletic Trainer Stipend & Extra-Duty Days are provided Campus: Bandera High School Primary Purpose: Plan and coordinate all components of the athletic training program for student athletes. Also work under the direction of the Athletic Director and Campus Principal to carry out activities in the following areas: prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries. Provide classroom instruction for Health and Wellness Pathway courses, and provide students with appropriate learning activities and experience designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Qualifications: Education Bachelor's degree Valid license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with Required Endorsements for Subject and Level Assigned Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation services Ability to provide emergency care Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to apply appropriate treatment to treat student athletic injuries Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and student athletic training assistants General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Knowledge of subjects assigned Ability to utilize technology and information resources Able to research and develop teaching units Able to instruct students and manage their behavior Possess excellent organizational, communicational, and interpersonal skills Major Responsibilities and Duties: Athletic Trainer Plan and implement a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by the athletic director Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, coaches, and other staff Provide physical conditioning training Fit injured athletes with specialized equipment and oversee its use Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and using tape, wraps, splints, braces, and other protective devices as needed Respond to emergencies and make quick, independent judgments about how to deal with injuries Identify acute injuries and provide first aide triage, including assessing injuries and deciding whether an athlete should seek further medical attention and should discontinue participation in the athletic event Establish specific procedures to be carried out by a coach or student trainer in the event of a medical emergency Detect and resolve environmental risks to athletes Plan and put in place a comprehensive rehabilitation and reconditioning program for injuries and illnesses sustained Determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual athletes Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on proper use of exercise equipment Evaluate and the record rehabilitation progress of athletes. Develop criteria for progression and return to practice and competition Follow professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding use of drugs and therapeutic agents for treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes Coordinate scheduling of athletic physical examinations and screening Select, train, and supervise student assistants Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents including medical, accident, and treatment records as required Maintain an inventory of training supplies and equipment. Requisition additional supplies as needed Teacher (Health & Wellness Pathways/Kinesiology) Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required Present subject matter according to guidelines established by federal regulations, the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the diverse needs of students assigned Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing Manage students behavior in accordance with District Discipline Management Plan Code of Conduct and student handbook Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers and support staff Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills Other Preferred: Current adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business Must be able to perform the essential functions of interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance Other duties as assigned as per the needs of Bandera ISD Equipment Knowledge & Use Required: Computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax machine, telephone and calculator; athletic communication systems, exercise equipment and devices including stationary bike, pulleys, weights, whirlpool, cold packs, and other athletic injury response equipment Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; Work with frequent interruptions; Ability to read and communicate effectively (verbal and written); Interpret policy, procedures, and data; Occasional lifting and carrying moderate weight; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; Indoor and outdoor work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and around machinery with moving parts; Exposure to sun, heat, cold, inclement weather, biological/chemical hazards and communicable diseases; Frequent district, and occasional statewide travel; Frequent prolonged and irregular hours Interested applicants should contact Joel Fontenot-Amedee, BISD Athletic Director, at Or, Dr. Patrick Sizemore, Campus Principal, at for additional information.
