Job Description The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for implementing therapeutic programs and treatments as outlined by the supervising Occupational Therapist and in accordance with state and national regulatory standards. The COTA collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to support patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals. This role requires strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Responsibilities: Administers occupational therapy treatments according to the supervising Occupational Therapist's plan of care. Communicates regularly with the Supervising Therapist, DON, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members regarding patient progress, issues, and care plans. Provides monthly communication to patients' families or guardians regarding progress, home program updates, and therapy/equipment needs. Maintains accurate and timely documentation including daily treatment notes, portions of monthly progress reports, and discharge summaries. Ensures patient confidentiality is upheld in accordance with HIPAA and organizational standards. Provides consistent updates to families/caregivers (minimum once a month) via phone, text, or written correspondence. Adheres to the Florida State Occupational Therapy Practice Act and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) guidelines. Submits comprehensive 6-month progress summaries to the Supervising Therapist at least 48 hours before patient re-evaluations. Additional Responsibilities: Identifies and responds appropriately to urgent or emergent patient situations in accordance with protocol. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized therapy environment, including exam rooms and supplies. Exhibits professional demeanor and conduct at all times. Follows all policies and procedures established by Little Angels. Builds and sustains collaborative working relationships with physicians, staff, and management. Adheres to assigned clinic hours as approved by the Manager. Maintains and shares an accessible daily schedule with nursing and therapy staff. Attends staff meetings as requested. Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
