Job Description

The Facilities Department at Drew university is seeking a skilled Building Engineer to join its team. This is a full-time position (40-hour a week) with a Wednesday through Sunday daytime schedule. Qualified applicants must have working knowledge across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC as general grounds maintenance such as pothole repair and line stripping. The ideal candidate will be able to diagnose, repair and replace common building system components and resolve routine facilities issues Job Responsibilities: Perform minor preventative maintenance on HVAC systems. Replace faucets, sinks and toilets. Cut and install ceiling tiles. Patch and paint drywall and plaster walls and ceilings. Repair carpet tile and other flooring. Replace lamp, ballasts and emergency ballasts. Coordinate, oversee and inspect work performed by outside contractors. Estimate labor time and materials required to complete repairs. Manage tools, materials, parts, and supply inventory; monitor inventory levels and notify leadership with sufficient lead time to ensure uninterrupted operations. Complete required documentation, including work orders, inventory records and preventative maintenance forms. Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to open, update and close work orders. Performs other job-related duties as assigned Job Requirements and Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED Two to four (2-4) years of experience in a skilled trades field. Ability to communicate effectively using email, telephone, two-way radio systems and mobile devices. Ability to work a rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours emergencies. Ability to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, as scheduled. Strong written and verbal English communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read and interpret plans, design specifications, and equipment operating manuals. Valid US Driver's License with the ability to operate automobiles, vans, light trucks and utility vehicles. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and their operations. Essential Physical Functions: Ability to move throughout campus grounds and within campus buildings to perform job duties. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, kneel and reach as required to perform maintenance and repair tasks. Ability to climb ladders and stairs freely. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions, including weather noise, dust and temperature changes. Demonstrated competency and manual dexterity to safely operate the use of tools and operating equipment. Job Skills: Knowledge of safe operating procedures, such as Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO). Ability to understand and apply professional industry standards for installation, repairs and workplace safety. Ability to use computer-based systems and equipment. Adaptability to work in a diverse, customer-focused environment, including the ability to remain effective under high-stress conditions, and respond to both routine tasks and unique or emergency situations. Strong organizational and administrative coordination skills related to job assignments, productivity, time management and prioritization.
