Salary : $36,325.00 - $61,751.00 Annually Location : Wilmington, NC Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202600026 Department: PARKS & GARDENS Opening Date: 02/25/2026 Closing Date: 3/11/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Position Information New Hanover County is looking for a Trades Technician with the Parks and Gardens Department to assist in our goal of providing safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing parks and facilities to the citizens and visitors of New Hanover County. The Parks & Gardens Department's mission is to maintain and operate parks and facilities that enrich the lives of the community and promote an overall healthier lifestyle. The department manages and maintains over 2,900 acres including parks & athletic facilities, historic Airlie Gardens, public school grounds and County-owned non-park facilities such as the county libraries, the Cape Fear Museum, NHC Jail and Fire Stations. Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to: Painting, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, roof repairs and installation Fence repairs, assisting electricians and mechanic, etc. at parks and gardens facilities to include picnic shelters, restrooms, playgrounds, walkways, foot bridges, gazebos, press boxes Maintain tools and equipment. Calculate amount of materials necessary to perform tasks and reports to appropriate parties. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. Perform work during emergency/disaster situations. Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Ability to use power tools ( saws, chainsaw, drills, nail guns, etc.) . Ability and comfort using and standing on ladders. Knowledge and experience operating equipment ( tractors, skid steer, loaders, etc). Employment Type: Full-time, non-exempt Salary Information: The hiring range for this position is $36,325.00 - $49,038.00 annually. QualificationsRequired Education and Experience: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and one year of related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
