Camp Description In this free, 5-day summer camp, students will be introduced to data science and how it is applied to investigating scientific problems. The experience, led by scientists from Argonne's Leadership Computing Facility, develops students' data science skills: from asking good questions to creating insightful visualizations from data. Through this, they can discover unexpected and amazing relationships within the data. Developing skills in data science can open many career pathways, paving the way forward to a bright tomorrow using data and scientific research. While basic experience in coding is required, Big Data Camp is meant to be an introduction to this blossoming field. Big Data Camp is for current high school juniors and seniors who... Are curious how data can be used to explore questions and problems in science and other areas related to their interests. Have basic experience in a text-based coding language like Python, Java, C, etc. Have little/no experience in data science but are interested in developing some basic skills that they hope to apply in their future education and career. Education and Experience Requirements Be a rising high school senior or in the summer after your high school graduation. Have prior coding experience in a computer language (C, Python, Java, etc.). Be available to participate in the full five-day program. Students must be able to provide their own transportation.
