TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking for a Maintenance Engineer (TE I/II) - District Maintenance Office based in Fort Worth, TX. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Maintenance Engineer II: Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. A day in the life of a Maintenance Engineer I- District Maintenance Office may include: Oversight of the bridge preventative maintenance program Advising the bridge crew Oversite of the MBITS program Leading interns and engineers on designing maintenance contracts Assisting with inspection of maintenance contracts Assisting in emergency operations Other duties as assigned Additionally a day in the life of Maintenance Engineer II District Maintenance Office may include: Managing the sealcoat portfolio Collection of data for pavement management Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. Maintenance Engineer I: Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Maintenance Engineer II: Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof EngineerProfessional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment. Competencies:Statistical analysis methodologies and reporting procedures Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements Bridge construction and evaluation methods, procedures and regulations Pavement design and management processes and procedures Pavement maintenance Bridge inspection and appraisal methods and procedures Cost estimating and cost controls Maintenance concepts, methods, policies and requirements Performing basic design and drafting Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour Subject to noise Subject to vibration Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc Standing-prolonged periods of time Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading Conditions of Employment:Applicants selected for an interview will be required to perform a job simulation to assess their skill in performing math calculations of Seal Coat rates for asphalt and aggregates. Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing. Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation - 49 CFR Part 40, at 40.151(e) - does not authorize "medical marijuana" under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position. Required to work weekends and holidays. Required to work hours other than 8 to 5. Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions. Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
