All degrees must come from accredited institutions. Strong consideration will be afforded to candidates who exhibit a demonstrated record of professional experience and success in undergraduate teaching. For positions that may include online teaching, candidates are expected to demonstrate an ability to successfully structure and implement a distance-education based course. FTE .5 Recruitment Range $3300-3500 per course, depending on education Anticipated Hiring Range $3300-3500 per course Number of vacancies 2 Position # ADJA01 FLSA Status Exempt Months per year 9 Work Schedule =e.g. 8-500 20 hours/week, flexible schedule Work Schedule Type Monday - Friday Primary Purpose of Organization UnitPrimary Purpose of Position To offer introductory courses in one or more of the following subject areas: American Civilizations to 1877, Native American History to 1750, Native American History since 1750 Job Description The Department of History seeks adjunct faculty to teach introductory courses in the following subject areas: American Civilizations to 1877, Native American History to 1750, and/or Native American History since 1750, starting in Spring 2026. Preference will be given to candidates who have academic expertise and/or teaching experience necessary to offer at least two of these courses. Applicants wishing to teach American Civilizations to 1877 should also address their plan to meet the UNC System's Foundations of American Democracy requirement in their course. Adjunct positions are especially suited for potential faculty who possess terminal degrees in History or have a minimum of 18 hours of approved graduate course work in relevant fields of History. The History Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and part-time faculty are expected to exhibit and maintain campus and department standards. Work Location: Main campus of UNCP and/or Online UNC Pembroke, part of the University of North Carolina System, has a student population of 8000 in various graduate, undergraduate, and professional programs. Originally founded in 1887 to educate Native Americans, UNC Pembroke has grown rapidly in recent years. Southeastern North Carolina offers close proximity to major cities and nearby beaches, and an affordable cost of living.
