Job Description The Office of the Attorney General is a dynamic organization with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Our agency provides exemplary legal representation for every arm of the State, fights human trafficking, helps victims of crime, protects our constituents, and runs the most effective Child Support Enforcement programs. Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Child Support (CS) Information Technology (IT) Division is seeking a Lead Senior Developer who wants to work on large-scale, mission-critical systems while maintaining a strong hands-on technical role. This position is ideal for a seasoned full-stack developer who enjoys solving complex integration problems, shaping technical direction, and mentoring others-without giving up day-to-day development work. You'll help modernize and evolve a broad ecosystem of applications built on Salesforce, Java/J2EE, cloud platforms, and enterprise integration tools in a stable, long-term environment. This is not a "maintenance-only" role or a purely managerial position-you will design, build, and influence systems that matter. Technical Leadership & Architecture • Lead solution design and technical implementation across multiple integrated platforms. • Make architecture decisions that support scalability, performance, security, and long-term maintainability. • Evaluate existing systems and guide modernization and integration strategies. Hands-On Development • Write, review, and optimize complex code across Salesforce, Java/J2EE (Spring Boot), REST APIs, and cloud-based services. • Lead development, testing, debugging, and deployment of enterprise applications. • Support integrations using middleware platforms and modern cloud services. Collaboration & Mentorship • Partner with product owners, business analysts, and functional teams to translate real-world needs into effective technical solutions. • Mentor developers and testers, sharing best practices and raising the overall technical bar across the team. • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams in a multi-team, enterprise environment. Standards, Quality & Governance • Establish and promote development standards, patterns, and technical best practices. • Review technical deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with enterprise and security standards. • Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and tooling. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Telework schedules are permitted for employees based on the agency's approved Telework Plan (if schedule does not adversely affect operations and service levels, and standard hours of operation are maintained). Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity. Qualifications: Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: computer science, information technology, computer programming, project management, program management, or information systems Experience: Seven years of full-time experience working (or coding) in the following (or closely related) fields: computer science, information technology, computer programming, project management, program management, or information systems Experience and knowledge building and maintaining custom Salesforce.com platform applications, including the ability to apply that knowledge to the current state of the business and technology and implement the plan to achieve the desired future state Experience and knowledge of Java / J2EE development, including frameworks such as Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, JSON/XML, and microservices. Experience or working knowledge of modern cloud ecosystems, such as AWS. Experience or working knowledge of integrating Salesforce and other systems with Mulesoft as middleware and modern cloud ecosystems Experience working on a project using an agile framework to develop software Knowledge of Agile methodologies and process Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems analysis; of computer operations procedures and systems; and of computer programming languages. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Skill in problem solving, in critical thinking, in programming, in the use of hardware and software, and in modifying or developing software for applications. Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making Ability to process information logically; to design programs and systems logic; to prepare program specifications; to code, test, and debug software; to interpret technical information related to programming and other areas of data processing; to communicate effectively; and to supervise the work of others. Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional environment Ability to work in person at an OAG work location, if needed, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) as required. Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel, if needed Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA Ability to lift and relocate 10 lbs. Ability to travel up to 5% PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Advanced degrees and education related to computer programming, test engineering, computer systems, and information technology. Experience with state government systems Industry standard Agile certifications and Technology Certifications like Salesforce, Mulesoft, AWS. Exposure and/or experience in modern DevOps pipelines and cloud-native application design. Experience working in or using Agile methodologies and tools Experience with Talend Data Integration for ETL design and optimization. Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, including Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway, ECS, or SQS for application deployment and integrations.
