THE POSITIONBelow is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor assists teacher(s) and/or other Adult Education vocational staff in the instruction, supervision and training of individuals or groups of students by providing assistance and instruction to students in the medical occupations classes; provides a variety of clerical support functions related to the activities and operations of the program; and Provides specialized paraprofessional instructional activities in support of the educational objectives of certificated staff and requires a high degree of positive contact with students and certificated staff. THE CANDIDATEEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent, and six months experience in a medical front and/or back office setting or professional certification in the health care career sector. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid first aid and CPR certification issued by an authorized agency; employees must fulfill certification requirements within the first three (3) months of the probationary period. Some incumbents in this classification may be required to speak, read and write in a designated second language. THE DETAILS TESTING INFORMATION The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience and the supplemental questionnaire. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an examination pass. Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID is required for admittance to the exam. Step 2: Performance Exam (weighted 50%) tentatively scheduled on Wednesday February 11, 2026. Applicants will be required to work through multiple choice questions along with computer exercises using Microsoft Word, EXCEL, and Google Suite which simulate the type of work a Medical Office Occupations Lab Assistant is expected to perform day to day. Applicants must pass the performance skills examination to move forward to the next step. Step 3: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 50%) tentatively scheduled on Thursday February 26, 2026. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list. ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATIONNew Hires - Initial Salary Placement The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria: Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification) Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period. Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years. Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations. Education Incentives All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree which is above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours/day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.)
