The Cordova Recreation & Park District (District) is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator to join our team! The Program Coordinator - Sports will support a wide range of recreational and social programs, leagues, camps, classes, and activities, with a primary focus on sports. This role involves planning, implementing, evaluating, and managing youth and adult sports leagues, programs, classes, and operations at the Mather Sports Complex and other District parks and facilities. Additionally, work may be conducted at various locations, including community centers, parks, schools, and other sites within District boundaries. Summary Description Under general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor II and a Senior Recreation Coordinator, provides assistance with a wide variety of recreational and social programs and services at a variety of recreation sites, including community centers, playgrounds, parks, schools, and other sites; designs, implements and evaluates selected programs, classes, services, activities, and events to meet the needs of the community; provides a variety of functions necessary for the successful operations of designated facilities throughout the District; and maintains records and reports. Who We Are Established in 1958, Cordova Recreation & Park District is an independent special district governed by an elected board of Directors. We provide quality recreation programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages. Who We Serve We proudly serve the communities within Sacramento County including the City of Rancho Cordova and the communities of Gold River, Larchmont, Mather, Riviera East, Rosemont and additional unincorporated portions of Sacramento County. Learn more about the District at Essential Functions The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Assist in the planning, organizing, marketing, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of recreational and sports programs, classes, leagues, events, and related activities. Assist in the recruitment, assignment, training, and coordination of other part-time or volunteer support staff. Enforce District and facility rules and procedures including, but not limited to, program rules, field use, care of equipment, and admittance to facilities. Perform opening and closing duties of assigned facilities; lock and arm facility with correct and effective use of the intrusion alarm system; prepare the facility to begin daily operations, if assigned. Prepare and maintain accurate program and other records as needed. Prepare and maintain inventory records and may make purchases when authorized. Provide customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact and assist with any questions, conflicts, and phone calls. Conduct ongoing inspection of facilities, grounds, program equipment and facility use to insure safe operation of each. Act as Department representative to local residents, governmental agencies, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation programs and facility operations. Provide backup and may occasionally substitute for other recreation positions including, but not limited to score keepers, sports officials, recreation leaders, and facilitators. Perform related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties. Knowledge of: Operations, services, and activities of assigned recreation leagues, classes, camps, and programs. Group recreational and social activities. A variety of sports activities for youth and adults including facility and equipment use. Modern methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in planning and supervision of recreation programs and facilities. Effective promotion and marketing of recreation programs, services, activities, and events. Principles and practices of public parks and recreation program planning, organization, and administration. Rules and equipment utilized in athletic and recreational programs, leagues, classes, and camps. Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Organization and time management skills. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures within the area of assignment. Principles and practices of record keeping. Ability to: Implement activities in support of assigned recreation program. Effectively handle and diffuse disruptive behavior among program participants, staff, and volunteers. Communicate tactfully with customers and address public and customer questions and concerns. Respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner. Ensure safe and proper use of recreation facilities and equipment. Administer first aid and CPR, if certified. Gather, analyze, and report information. Have strong customer service skills. Multitask and plan and organize work to meet changing priorities. Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Learn and use specialized recreational software. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Drive to parks throughout the District to check on user group rentals, field conditions and playability, and meet with sports club directors on-site. Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of two (2) years' experience in recreation programming, physical education, coordinating classes/tournaments/league play, and/or sports coaching is desired. Experience in Microsoft Office programs such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint and have the ability to learn and use Recreation Programming software. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid/CPR/AED certification within thirty (30) days of employment. Possession of a valid Class C (basic, non-commercial) California driver's license is required. Additional Requirements: Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks. A clear tuberculosis screening is required.
