Job Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager Location: Fremont, CA Shift: M-F Pay Range: $61- $90 hourly Employment Type: Temporary Summary We are seeking a senior, hands-on Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Leader to oversee and advance EHS programs across multiple North America sites. This role will design, implement, and lead an EHS management system that prevents injuries and environmental incidents, ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and supports safe, efficient organizational growth. This position requires strong experience in biotech, biologics, laboratory environments, and biosafety (BSL-2), with direct ownership of clinical and laboratory safety programs, including Bloodborne Pathogens. Key Responsibilities Strategy & Governance Design and implement a comprehensive North America EHS management system. Establish site governance, including monthly reviews, annual planning, and compliance calendars. Define, track, and report EHS KPIs such as TRIR, DART, severity rates, near misses, corrective action closure, training completion, and environmental metrics. Develop EHS strategy, programs, budgets, and resource plans. Regulatory & Environmental Compliance Serve as the primary EHS contact for OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and applicable state and local agencies. Own and maintain the Bloodborne Pathogens Program for clinical and laboratory environments. Maintain permits, records, and reporting for hazardous, biomedical, and universal waste; air emissions; wastewater; and stormwater. Ensure accurate OSHA 300/300A/301 reporting and injury documentation. Maintain compliance with clinical safety standards and laboratory regulatory requirements. Program Leadership Own and lead core EHS programs, including: Hazard Communication Chemical Hygiene & Biosafety Machine Guarding Lockout/Tagout Electrical Safety Laser Safety (as applicable) Respiratory Protection & PPE Confined Space (as applicable) Powered Industrial Trucks Contractor Safety Industrial Hygiene Monitoring Lead internal audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking. Maintain an EHS training matrix with role-based curricula and documented effectiveness checks. Manage external EHS vendors (medical providers, waste vendors, IH labs, EHS software). Ergonomics Build and implement a tiered ergonomics program across office, laboratory, production, and remote environments. Conduct proactive ergonomic risk assessments for lab and production activities (e.g., pipetting, microscopy, biosafety cabinets, benchtop work, material handling). Partner with internal teams to integrate ergonomics into equipment purchases, workstation design, and pre-start reviews. Incident, Emergency & Change Management Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis methodologies. Drive corrective and preventive actions to completion and share learnings across sites. Maintain emergency response plans, drills, and incident command roles. Partner with local emergency responders and regulatory agencies on emergency preparedness. Own Management of Change (MOC) processes for new chemicals, equipment, processes, and facility changes. Coordinate first aid, AED, spill response, fire prevention, and evacuation programs. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Operations, R&D, Facilities, Quality, Supply Chain, and HR to integrate EHS into daily operations and new product introductions. Present EHS dashboards, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior leadership. Align with Facilities and Security on severe weather, power loss, and critical utility continuity plans. Qualifications 8+ years of progressive EHS experience, including oversight of multiple sites. Strong experience in biotech, biologics, laboratory, clinical, or medical device environments. Hands-on experience with biosafety programs (BSL-2) and Bloodborne Pathogens. Deep knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and state-specific regulations. Demonstrated experience building or scaling EHS management systems. Data-driven approach with experience developing metrics, dashboards, and trend analysis. Strong communicator and influencer across technical teams and executive leadership. Comfortable working hands-on in labs and production environments. Education & Certifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field. Professional certifications preferred: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or ASP. OSHA 30 (General Industry) preferred. Additional Requirements Ability to travel up to 50% across North America sites. Ability to work in production and laboratory environments and wear required PPE.
