The City has two vacancies that this recruitment is attempting to fill. The position is open until filled, therefore this is an open/continuous process and the recruitment can be closed at any time. Job Description Are you ready to make a difference in your community? The City of Florence Police Department is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as Police Officers. As a Police Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring public safety and maintaining order in the beautiful city of Florence, Oregon. As a Police Officer, your duties include: Ensuring public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing laws, and promoting community relations. Conducting thorough investigations, preserving crime scenes, and preparing detailed reports to uphold the law. Engaging with the community, explaining laws and procedures, and representing the City with professionalism and respect. Operating police vehicles, patrolling city streets, and responding effectively to various incidents. Qualifications Minimum and Special Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Experience: A combination of education and training demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills. Age Requirement: At least 21 years old at the time of appointment. Citizenship: Must possess or be able to obtain US citizenship per OAR 259-008-0010. Physical Ability: Meet physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including running, climbing, and lifting. Preferred Qualifications: Language Skills: Bi-lingual ability in Spanish and English. Education: Higher-level educational degree. Background: Have no disqualifying criminal history or any felony convictions; no recent DUI's, Reckless Driving, or Hit and Runs; and no recent illicit drug usage. Applicants must take the Frontline NTN test OR the Police Officer Selection Test (POST) Regarding the exams, your Reading section score must be 75% or greater; you must not fail any one section; and you must average at least 75% overall. All tests must have been completed within one year of your application date. Applicants are responsible for contacting National Testing Network (NTN) and arranging for their own testing. The Department notifies top applicants from the Oral Board interview to attend a Police Chief's interview. The top applicant receives a conditional offer and must complete a comprehensive background investigation. Other qualifying applicants may be requested to complete the comprehensive background and enter the eligibility pool. After passing the comprehensive background investigation, the top applicant will be scheduled for a psychological exam, medical physical, and drug screening. After passing all above related exams, the top applicant will receive a finalized offer and start date. After this interview, the Department Head and the City Manager will meet to discuss the candidates and the City Manager will make the final decision based on the Department Head's recommendation. The top candidate will receive a conditional offer that specifies what background procedures will be conducted (depends upon position).
