Inspector III (Angleton Windstorm Inspector) The Windstorm Inspector inspects buildings constructed in the first tier of counties along the Texas Gulf Coast for building code compliance in order to be considered insurable property for windstorm coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. The ideal candidate will perform physical inspections of residential and commercial properties. This candidate will also be responsible for meeting with contractors, builders, agents, consumers, and professional engineers on building code requirements. This position:Performs physical inspections of residential and commercial properties. Travels on a consistent basis. Prepares and maintains field office progress reports for Austin office. Responds to technical inquiries, both verbal and written. Develops and facilitates education programs and speaking events for the public and industry professionals regarding TDI rules, policies, and changes. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: This position requires: • High school diploma or equivalent. Nine months of experience in the construction community which may include building inspector, contractor, superintendent, builder, roofer, or in a field relative to assignment. Class C Texas Driver's License. Passing the International Code Council Coastal exam or its equivalent within one year from date of hire. Regular work attendance. Note: Skill: Operating a motor vehicle in a safe and courteous manner in compliance with traffic laws. Ability: Satisfy the requirements to maintain fully qualified driving status. Preferences for this position include:Knowledge of windstorm building code, and other laws and statutes which may govern the construction of structures on the Texas Gulf Coast. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements. Windstorm Building Code, International Residential Code, International Building Code, and other laws and statutes that may govern the construction of structures on the Texas Gulf Coast. Insurance principles and practices. This position requires demonstrated skill in:Problem solving and critical thinking. Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job. Maintaining records. Operating a motor vehicle in highly congested traffic conditions within Austin, metropolitan areas, and the Gulf Coast area in a safe courteous manner in compliance with traffic laws. This position requires the demonstrated ability to:Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds. Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments. Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines. Work both independently and as a team player. Comprehend and apply building codes. Comprehend and apply product evaluation reports and obtain new product information as required for certification. Observe established safety requirements. Conduct inspections and identify non-compliant findings. Prepare clear and concise reports of findings. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, builders, contractors, engineering firms, insurance industry representatives, lending institutions, homeowners, and the general public. Interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Comprehend and apply complex regulatory rules and statutes to determine compliance or solve problems. Satisfy the conditions required to maintain fully qualified driving status.
