Senior Firewall Engineer

PGS Worldwide is seeking an IT Security Spec Principal (Senior Firewall Engineer) for a fully remote 6-month contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. In this role, you will help protect a complex global network by designing, implementing, and managing enterprise firewall and web proxy technologies, while partnering closely with a 24/7 Global Security Operations Center (GSOC). Candidates must be true security engineering experts (not primarily analyst, vulnerability/C&A, management, or compliance-focused roles) and must provide their current location. Required Skills Strong understanding of networking protocols including DNS, TCP/IP, and common transport protocols Solid grasp of networking and security principles Hands-on experience implementing firewall technologies (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Check Point, and/or Juniper SRX) Firewall policy development, implementation, and ongoing management experience Firewall configuration and deployment experience, including: Network configuration (VLANs, subnets) Routing configuration (static routes, OSPF) Rule configuration (ACLs, security policies) Ability to produce clear technical documentation (installation guides, network diagrams, configuration guides, user tutorials) Ability to support users and operations teams via phone, email, and/or an incident management system Experience level aligned to one of the following: 14+ years (HS), 10+ years (AA), 8+ years (BS), or 6+ years (MS) Preferred Skills Industry-recognized certifications such as Security+, Network+, Palo Alto Networks, or Cisco certifications What You'll Do Design, implement, manage, and maintain network security systems, including firewalls and web proxy systems Research, prototype, and implement new security technologies to improve overall security posture Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation and diagrams Provide backup support for other enterprise security tools by learning new platforms as needed Collaborate with a 24/7 GSOC to support operational needs and respond to user requests Analyze network traffic patterns, security requirements, and future growth to support technical assessments and risk mitigation Work with tools/keywords relevant to the environment including Linux/UNIX security, Splunk, SIEM, Cisco FirePOWER, Palo Alto firewalls, and network scripting Job ID: 7347 "Military veterans and transitioning military members are encouraged to apply to all PGS Worldwide positions.
