Position Summary The Pain Management Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive pain assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for patients with acute and chronic pain conditions. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, the NP ensures safe, effective, and evidence-based pain management while promoting patient comfort and functional improvement. Key Responsibilities Conduct thorough assessments including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations to determine causes of pain. Develop individualized treatment plans using a multimodal approach, including medication management, interventional referrals, physical therapy, and complementary therapies. Prescribe and manage controlled substances in accordance with California state and federal regulations and best practice guidelines. Monitor treatment outcomes, adjust interventions, and provide patient education to support safe and effective pain management. Collaborate with physicians, specialists, mental health providers, and allied health staff to coordinate care. Document all patient encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and audits related to pain management practices. Maintain current knowledge on opioid safety, pain pharmacology, and evidence-based treatment options. Qualifications Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the State of California. Board certification as an Adult, Family, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AANP or ANCC). DEA license with Schedule II-V prescribing authority. Minimum 2+ years of experience in pain management, primary care, or a related specialty preferred. Strong understanding of opioid safety, pain pharmacology, and non-opioid therapies. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and clinical decision-making skills. Preferred Skills Experience with EHR systems (e.g., Athena, Epic). Certification in pain management is a plus. BLS and ACLS certifications.
