Position Details Position Information Posting Number S156P Posting TextJob Title Security Officer 1/Dispatcher Type of Employment Full Time Bargaining Unit POA Full-Time/Part-TimeFLSASalary Range $34,714 Position ClassificationDepartment PennWest University Police - Edinboro Posting Text Job Summary / Basic FunctionESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Security Officer 1/Dispatcher reports to the Police Chief and the shift Police Supervisor and is responsible for obtaining and retrieving information and dispatching, referring, or retaining the information in relation to the operation of the University Police Department. The incumbent notifies appropriate personnel when incidents occur and logs all information received and action taken. In carrying out the mission of the position, the incumbent performs the following essential functions: - Answers the telephone and operates a two-way dispatch radio to obtain/retrieve information and to transmit information by dispatching appropriate officers or other emergency agencies. - Interacts with faculty, students, staff and visitors in a professional manner both on the phone and in person, providing a quality customer service, furnishing directions and campus information. - Performs receptionist duties for the Department; directs visitors to buildings and rooms; and responds in writing to inquiries when necessary. - Responsible for dispatching University Police Officers and providing relevant information concerning the nature of the incident. - Monitors Police personnel's actions to provide back-up support when necessary by arranging off-campus emergency personnel to respond. - Communicates information to patrol officers and/or police supervisors as needed. - Monitors fire alarms and resets fire alarm when emergency no longer exists. - Monitors camera systems and door security system for alarms and observed activity. - Monitors the assignment of state vehicles and issues vehicle packets to authorized personnel when using a state vehicle. - Disseminates information to appropriate Police personnel via logs, notes, memos, email and verbally, concerning possible issues, incidents or events that occur. - Logs information concerning activity reports and monitored activities; maintains daily log reports for recordkeeping. - Directs traffic for University sponsored events. - Maintains student weapons lockers associated paperwork. - Assist with lost and found property and associated paperwork. - Assist with security and security screening at University events. - Maintain a knowledge of parking rules and regulations and other information, as to provide information when questioned. - Uses a computer with appropriate software to perform all job functions. - Performs related duties as assigned. OTHER DUTIES: - Knowledge and use of computer programs for I-Mobile, Alert, JNET/Clean - Assist with background investigations. - Make maintenance call outs for on campus maintenance or custodial issues, as well as snow removal call outs for snow and ice. Required Skills, Knowledge & AbilitiesMinimum of Education / TrainingRequired Education Summary - Knowledge of and use of basic computer skills - Familiarity with police, fire and/or EMS functions and dispatching. - High School diploma or GED - Be able to read, write and type the English language. Preferred QualificationsPhysical Demands - Must be able to sit and stand for long period of time, while performing essential duties. - Must be able to work in extreme weather and adverse conditions under extreme pressure, with the capability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure from intense phone calls which may be the result of serious injury or a death or other stressful situations.
