Job Description

The Medical Representative reports directly to the Health Services Supervisor. The Medical Representative's role is to provide emergency medical response to any guest or employee with an injury/illness. In addition to medical responsibilities, this position will also be scheduled to support Security operations at the Front Entrance, performing duties such as guest screening, bag checks, and monitoring walk-through metal detectors. When scheduled for Security, these responsibilities will serve as the primary duty, with medical support provided only as needed. Your day to day Essential Functions (including but not limited to): Provides exceptional internal and external customer service by interacting courteously and professionally with employees, guests, vendors, and other Zoo visitors. Provides first response to medical emergencies involving guests or employees in accordance with ZooTampa guidelines, administering first aid, CPR, and/or AED as needed, and contacting offsite medical personnel when additional assistance is required. Partners with Human Resources to perform employee testing (e.g., TB testing) and maintain accurate documentation for workers' compensation cases. Maintains detailed and accurate medical reports for guest and employee injuries or illnesses; ensures all incidents and calls are promptly documented in FMX and distributed to appropriate individuals for review. Collaborates with Operations and Security teams during emergencies to ensure safety and effective communication. Supports the Security Department by assisting with guest screening, responding to safety-related calls, conducting welfare checks, and helping de-escalate difficult situations in a calm, professional manner. Patrols Zoo grounds as needed to promote safety and proactively identify potential hazards. Demonstrates strong situational awareness and actively contributes to a culture of safety throughout the Zoo. Performs additional duties as assigned. Interacts in a consistently pleasant and helpful manner to fellow employees, guests, vendors, and other visitors of the Zoo and demonstrates the highest standards of internal and external customer service. What are we looking for? Qualifications and Experience: High school diploma required; some college coursework preferred. Valid State of Florida EMT certification (or higher) required; First Aid/CPR/AED certification must be maintained. Valid Florida driver's license required. Guest services or guest relations experience required; security experience preferred. Personable and professional, with the ability to provide exceptional customer service and calmly de-escalate stressful situations. Comfortable assisting in medical and natural emergency situations. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety procedures, and emergency preparedness. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Able to follow instructions, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively within the department. Other Requirements: Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, applicable laws and regulations, safety standards, and ZooTampa's commitment to animal welfare. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold). Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, evening events, and occasional extended or emergency shifts. Must be physically able to sit, bend, stand, reach, and walk for extended periods; able to lift up to 50 lbs; and capable of operating a golf cart safely. Note: This is a part-time occasional position working special events, seasonal events on nights and weekends as needed.
