Weekly scheduled to be determined and will vary, but student employee must be able to work flexible hours to include some evenings and weekends Job Search Category Student Employee Position Description Advertised Job Summary Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and/or Head Lifeguard. Enforce safety regulations for the protection of pool patrons; make suggestions for new or updated regulations; assist in general maintenance and perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director. Responsibilities: - Responsible for lifeguarding programs at the facility including but not limited to recreational swimming, academic classes, swim team, swim club and rec programs - Attend staff, departmental, or university employee training as assigned - Attend certification or re-certification programs as needed to meet the minimum requirements for employment. - Assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of the facility QualificationsQualifications Must be a currently enrolled USC Upstate student. Must participate in required training conducted by the Spartan Rec Center. Satisfactory completion of training provided by the Spartan Rec Staff. Current lifeguard certification document must be uploaded when completing the employment application. Must have the following certifications: - Current certification in Lifeguard Training (ARC only) - Must pass screening tests of basic lifeguarding skills and knowledge throughout the year - Must pass the prerequisite swimming test when interviewed which consists of: 1. Jump into the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 50 yards. - After swimming 50 yards, maintain your position at the surface of the water without support for 2 minutes by treading using only your legs, floating, or a combination of both. - After maintaining position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards. 2. You have 50 seconds to complete the following sequence (goggle not allowed). - Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. - Submerge to a depth of 4 to 7 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. - Return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping your face at or near the surface.
