Appointment Type Full Time Regular Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The ERP & Database Systems Engineer guides the use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and database technology, ensuring the continuing operations of these services. The position works with various units within Information Services and the campus community in the course of maintaining, securing, and upgrading the ERP and database systems. The ERP & Database Systems Engineer acts as a subject matter expert for database and ERP products, and provides training to Information Services staff and campus users. This position focuses heavily on security, scalability, and performance tuning of University systems. Description of Primary Duties This position collaborates with the campus community to design and implement integrated solutions that connect University systems with third-party vendor products and custom applications. The role is responsible for deploying, upgrading, and supporting containerized Apache Tomcat applications through automated DevOps pipelines, managing Kubernetes orchestration in cloud environments, and ensuring the performance, security, and availability of Oracle database systems. Key responsibilities also include monitoring and tuning database performance, implementing automation, applying security patches, designing and migrating data, enforcing database security standards, and developing and testing backup, recovery, and disaster-prevention strategies. The position also emphasizes continuous professional development and contributes broadly to the operational success of the University. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements. Experience: At least two years of information technology experience is required. Demonstrated expertise in database administration and management, web server administration and management, Linux server proficiency, CI/CD/Dev-Ops proficiency, and troubleshooting complex systems, is preferred. Knowledge of Ellucian's Banner software suite is preferred. Skills: The ability to apply creativity and logic towards troubleshooting complex issues, the ability to manage multiple concurrent and competing projects and priorities, and possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, is required. The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information processed, stored, and accessed, is required. The ability to perform the duties of an Oracle and MS SQL Server Database Administrator is preferred. Proficiency with SQL, PL/SQL, Python, Ansible, and Terraform languages, is preferred. Proficiency with command line (Bash, PowerShell) interfaces and scripting, automated dev-ops pipelines, and Docker containerization is preferred. Other: The twenty-four hour scope of University operations requires this position to be available evenings, nights, and weekends to support implementations or upgrades and to respond to calls regarding questions or problems with the University's critical systems.
