Job Overview The Computer User Support Specialist 1 is responsible for providing support for general software and hardware systems within UC, specifically within a college. This includes installation, setup, and repair of off-the-shelf software programs and conducting user training. The specialist plans and recommends software solutions, programs, and modifications to existing programs to meet user needs, and maintains databases to meet user needs. The role also supports hardware and system software interfaces to maintain system integrity and performs necessary modifications. These activities include system backup and LAN management. Technical skills and adaptability are needed, with activities varying in accordance with college needs. Essential FunctionsProvide user support for off-the-shelf software applications programs, including installing, configuring, modifying and troubleshooting applications, and training users. Provide hardware and software training as needed. Evaluate and recommend off-the-shelf software to meet user needs. May write applications or automated routines or create other ad hoc applications solutions for users. Modify existing or third-party software programs to meet user needs. Create, manage, or manipulate data bases, using PC-based database software or mainframe database management systems/packages. Modify database report output according to user needs. Provide PC/workstation support for hardware and systems software interfaces. Install and configure standard operating systems and integrate them with related systems. Ensure system integrity between hardware and operating systems. Troubleshoot errors in system operations and related networks. Perform software and hardware modifications. Maintain and support hardware and software for stand-alone systems. May administrator and maintain a LAN, file server, network operating system and/or mainframe as a part of position duties; perform local area network (LAN) and system backups. Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Required EducationBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field. Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Experience Relevant work experience considered. Additional Qualifications ConsideredExperience with IT service delivery in an educational environment. Experience with ServiceNow for support requests. Experience imaging and deploying systems and applications with System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy configuration. Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint. Experience with managing an asset lifecycle (from procurement to disposal). Experience supporting basic Audio/Video needs in a classroom environment. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
