Your Role and Responsibilities We are seeking an exceptional Lead Security Engineer with expertise in architecting and operating secure hybrid cloud environments, and a background in Quantum Computing is a notable advantage. This position, based at the T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, is crucial in securing our software applications, infrastructure, and data, particularly in high-tech and sensitive environments like quantum computing. Your responsibilities will include: Leading a team focused on key areas such as Risk Management, Threat Modeling, Security Architecture (both Cloud and On-Prem), Network Security, Compliance (internal policies and standards), Secure Development Lifecycle Practices, Vulnerability Management, Incident Investigation and Response, Data Privacy and Protection, Access Management, and Policy formation specific to the Quantum team. Actively contributing to the team's efforts across these areas while guiding and managing the security team from a technical standpoint, including work division, task assignments, and milestone achievements. Proactively assessing risks, applying security frameworks, and collaborating with teams such as IBM's Chief Security Information Officer (CISO) and product development groups to integrate security throughout the entire product lifecycle. The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced, complex work environment. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in software security, network security, ethical hacking, cybersecurity, and identity and access management is required. Holding a CISSP certification is a plus. Required Technical and Professional Expertise Strong foundation in core security principles, including network security, application security, identity and access management (IAM), data encryption, vulnerability management, threat modeling, data privacy, and incident response. Hands-on experience with various security tools for monitoring, logging, and response, including penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and firewall management. Expertise in cloud security, involving cloud storage, network configurations, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud-based identity management systems. Experience in DevSecOps or secure software development life cycle (SDLC) environments, ensuring security practices are integrated into every development stage, including conducting code reviews and security testing. Experience in leading incident response efforts, identifying and mitigating breaches, conducting forensic analysis, and strategizing to prevent future incidents. Strong collaboration and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with cross-functional teams and articulating security risks and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences. Preferred Technical and Professional Experience Experience or familiarity with the unique security requirements in quantum computing environments, including interactions with existing security systems and the application of quantum-specific encryption methods. Expertise in security tools, particularly IBM QRadar for security information and event management (SIEM). Experience securing cloud infrastructures, especially on IBM Cloud. Understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements like GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, and FEDRAMP, with the ability to navigate compliance audits effectively.
