Horizon House, Inc. is a nationally recognized provider of services to adults with support needs due to developmental disabilities, behavioral health issues, and substance abuse. Horizon House is Pennsylvania's oldest psychiatric rehabilitation agency. Since 1952, we have been dedicated to helping people with mental illness, drug and alcohol addictions, developmental/intellectual disabilities, and homelessness to stabilize their lives and to help them live as independently as possible in the community. With over 100 locations throughout South and North Eastern Pennsylvania and the state of Delaware, Horizon House provides services to a diverse population focusing on individual strength and choice. We are currently seeking a dedicated Program Assistant to fill an opening within our Delaware County Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team located in Swarthmore, PA. This member of the FACT multidisciplinary team supports the daily operations of the Delaware County ACT team through providing administrative services and support. Provides general clerical support and assistance including typing, filing, record keeping, phone coverage, reception, coordinating schedules and appointments, inter and intra- agency communications and other related office procedures. The Program Assistant assists in the planning and delivery of program activities and services. Some of the responsibilities include the following: • Greet visitors at FACT office and answer telephone calls. • Triage and coordinate communication between the team and clients. • Obtain answers to questions for clients' families, community resources and agencies; work with callers to relieve urgent situations or to temporarily manage them until other staff are available. • Attend to symptomatic behavior (shouting and pacing) of clients who come into the ACT office for appointment with staff or of those who come in without a clear purpose (persons without something to do or who come in because of distress) • Assess and report clinical behaviors and information to the ACT team (e.g., poor self-care, medical problems and increased overt symptoms such as agitation) that are out of the ordinary for that particular client. • Provide general clerical support and assistance including typing, filing, record keeping, scheduling inter and intra-agency communications, and receiving, stamping and distributing all incoming mail and other related office procedures. • Assist in ordering and maintaining supplies, equipment, and furniture; arrange for repair of office furniture and equipment; recording mileage logged on program vehicles; and arranging for maintenance of program vehicles. • Assist in recording admissions and discharges to provide a source of information for statistical reports. • High School Diploma or GED and at least 2 years of prior secretarial / office experience or any combination of experience, education or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required. • Minimum of 1 year direct experience working with the Mental Health / Substance Abuse population and knowledge of mental health systems and supports. • Professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to type 40 WPM Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher and • Power Point)Ability to communicate effectively and provide direct intervention with clients. • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Scope: Frequent talking and listening. Requires the ability to lift, carry, fold, kneel, reach, stack, stoop and bend which may include direct intervention with clients. May require crisis intervention in emergency situations. Must be available for local travel and possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. May be required to report to work during emergencies including inclement weather.
