OVERVIEW The Senior Physician Editor (Nephrology) position offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to influence the practice of medicine both in the United States and globally. This role is focused on editorial work, requiring an 80-90% commitment, combined with a comprehensive understanding of clinical issues and a keen interest in literature analysis. As a Physician Editor, you will ensure that complex topics are translated into clear, actionable, evidence-based recommendations. You will receive extensive editorial training, overseen by experienced senior Physician Editors, to help you develop the necessary skills for evaluating literature and crafting content in the UpToDate style. Working remotely, you'll be part of a collaborative team that overlaps significantly with Eastern Time Zone work hours, facilitating regular interactions with fellow editors. This position allows you to maintain your clinical engagement while dedicating the majority of your time to writing, reviewing literature, and discussing the clinical implications of new research with expert contributors. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: As a Physician Editor, your primary responsibilities will include: Reviewing and editing contributions from external expert authors to ensure they address critical clinical questions. Ensuring that topics provide specific, actionable recommendations backed by robust evidence. Identifying and updating topics based on new literature and developments in nephrology. Systematically reviewing existing topics for clarity, completeness, and relevance. Collaborating closely with outside authors, section editors, and peer reviewers to uphold content accuracy and impartiality. Working with in-house editorial and graphics assistants to produce and maintain high-quality content. QUALIFICATIONS Required Education: Medical Degree Board Certification/Eligibility in Nephrology Preferred Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities: Clinical experience in an academic setting post-residency. Valid medical license in at least one U.S. state. Exceptional communication skills—verbal, written, and listening. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work with colleagues of varying expertise. Self-driven with strong organizational and time management skills. Effective at both giving and receiving constructive feedback. Interest in critically analyzing medical literature (skills may be developed on the job). Willingness to dedicate 80-90% of work hours to editorial tasks. Desire to maintain clinical practice (10-20%). TRAVEL: Minimal - less than 5%. This role is eligible for a bonus, with actual compensation influenced by various factors including skills and experience.
