Applicants MUST be a current student at DigiPen Institute of Technology to qualify for this position. Student Employment at DigiPen is open to all currently matriculated students if they meet the qualifications for the job. Students may not work during any time when they have a class scheduled, a class is canceled, or a class ends early. Student workers must reside within the State of Washington. Remote work outside of Washington will not be permitted. Job Title: CTLE Student Assistant, F25-S26Reports to: Chris Hawk The CTLE Student Assistant supports DigiPen's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) by conducting structured classroom observations for faculty. This position helps instructors gain insight into classroom dynamics, teaching practices, and student engagement through objective, evidence-based observation. Working under the guidance of the CTLE Director(s), the student assistant meets with faculty to identify their goals for an observation, attends and documents class sessions using the CTLE Classroom Observation Protocol, and produces a detailed descriptive report summarizing findings. The assistant's role is purely observational, focused on accurately capturing what occurs during instruction rather than evaluating teaching quality. This position offers students an opportunity to develop professional communication, note-taking, and analytical skills while contributing to faculty development and the broader improvement of teaching and learning at DigiPen. Essential Functions Meet with faculty members before an observation to clarify their goals (e.g., what aspects of teaching or student behavior they'd like observed). Use the CTLE Classroom Observation Protocol to collect structured, objective data about classroom activities, including instructor actions, student engagement, and classroom dynamics. Remain an unobtrusive observer while recording notes during live class sessions. Complete a written observation report summarizing the findings, with a focus on descriptive rather than evaluative language. Submit observation notes and reports for CTLE review and incorporate any feedback. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and written materials. As needed, meet again with the faculty member to review and discuss observation results. Track and report hours worked accurately. Qualifications/Competencies Strong attention to detail and ability to write clear, objective summaries. Excellent listening and note-taking skills. Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently. Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion when interacting with faculty and observing classrooms. Preferred: Background or coursework in psychology or communication. Experience with peer tutoring, academic support, or observation-based assignments. Expected dates of employment: November 3, 2025 - April 17, 2026 Expected number of hours per week: 10 Once again, students are not permitted to work during any time when they are scheduled for a class.Wage Range:$16.66 - 17.75 per hour, depending on number of terms worked at DigiPen Requirements to Apply: Resume Cover Letter Current Semester Academic Schedule DigiPen Student Employee Academic Requirements: Are currently a Matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology Good Academic Standing - not on Academic Warning as defined in DigiPen Course Catalog A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher Requirement Exceptions: It is possible to still be selected for a position with DigiPen if you do not meet the requirements above, so don't let that dissuade you from applying! Once you have applied for - and the supervisor decides to offer you - a position, we will contact the necessary managers (Supervisor, Department Chair, and/or the Dean of Faculty) to complete and sign off on an Academic Waiver form, depending on which requirements need to be waived.
