The NeuroRecovery Research Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital is seeking a highly motivated therapist to contribute to ongoing projects. The research center is part of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Texas - Medical School at Houston. The research center is housed in TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital that allows easy and convenient access to patient populations, including stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, amputation and pain. See our website for details: Position Summary: Provides professional, educational, and clinical skills in organizing and directing occupational therapy services. The ideal candidate may possess a professional degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy. Clinical experience working with patients with neurological impairments, is preferred. While research experience is preferred, it is not required. Experience in motion capture, EMG, and coding is desired. The role may conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations of patients' physical and functional abilities and to deliver therapy in accordance with research protocols. Additional responsibilities may include: • Preparing and maintaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications. • Recruiting and scheduling study subjects. • Keeping detailed and accurate records. • Participating in data analysis and discussions. • Preparing manuscripts and presenting research findings. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of rehabilitation therapies for individuals with neurological impairments. Position Key Accountabilities: 1. Coordinates all Occupational therapy to ensure appropriate patient treatment. 2. Conducts patient consultation, evaluation, and program planning for all patients. 3. Develops home exercise programs to instruct patients in the required exercise for treatment. 4. Reassesses patient status on an ongoing basis to ensure that treatment goals, plans, and program are appropriate. 5. Participates in the development and writing of clinical research protocols; utilizes knowledge of area of expertise (e.g. therapy) to promote safety and efficacy in research questions, protocol development, interventions, and outcomes. 6. Develops educational programs to increase patient/family and community awareness of Occupational therapy treatment including department faculty, staff, researchers. 7. Recruits and screens patients, enrolls suitable candidates for participation in research protocols. 8. Provides all study related activities related to rehabilitation therapies per research protocol. 9. Assists in the preparation of progress reports and grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. 10. Other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills: Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Working knowledge of MS Office. Occupational Therapy (OT) by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners - Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (ECPTOTE) required Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Master's or Doctoral degree preferred. Minimum Experience: Three (3) years of experience required. Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
