Industrial Engineer Summer Internship

Carpenter Co. has an 11-week Industrial Engineering summer internship at our foam manufacturing plant in Elkhart, Indiana. This full-time internship position will begin May 26, 2026. As the successful intern, you will be studying and reporting on cycle times of all steps in the Kitting process in the Laminated Mattress department under the guidance and supervision of a senior mentor. Throughout the internship you will provide metrics to ensure appropriate resources to production flow. Your additional responsibilities as an Industrial Engineering Intern will include: Create a spreadsheet that predicts the staffing and time needed to kit the next day’s production schedule. This would help ensure that mattress production is not slowed by kitting and it also provides an expectation for kitting output. Study material flow and report on potential improvements in storing and moving materials to the production lines. Do a cost analysis of our current kitting process vs the potential use of an Elektrotek picking robot.
