Carpenter Co. has an 11-week Industrial Engineering summer internship at our foam manufacturing plant in Elkhart, Indiana. This full-time internship position will begin May 26, 2026. As the successful intern, you will be studying and reporting on cycle times of all steps in the Kitting process in the Laminated Mattress department under the guidance and supervision of a senior mentor. Throughout the internship you will provide metrics to ensure appropriate resources to production flow. Your additional responsibilities as an Industrial Engineering Intern will include: Create a spreadsheet that predicts the staffing and time needed to kit the next day’s production schedule. This would help ensure that mattress production is not slowed by kitting and it also provides an expectation for kitting output. Study material flow and report on potential improvements in storing and moving materials to the production lines. Do a cost analysis of our current kitting process vs the potential use of an Elektrotek picking robot. Skills/ RequirementsMinimum H.S. diploma or equivalent Completion of 2 years in Industrial Engineering courses with a minimum 2.75 GPA Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required Communication skills, including active listening, clear verbal communication, and professional written communication Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Creative and analytical problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset High attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation quality Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Important Notes Carpenter Co. is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or other legally protected characteristic.
