We're looking for an Electronics Technician to join our team at the Western Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facility. In this role, you'll dive into everything from calibrating meters and maintaining PLCs to troubleshooting SCADA systems and keeping our fiber networks humming. Our Electronics Technician positions are part of our established career ladder program that provides for the advancement of non-supervisory staff members in eligible positions who demonstrate increasing levels of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Anticipated Hiring Range: $56,888-$69,867. Compensation may be higher for candidates with directly related experience, certifications and exceptional qualifications. This position is based at the Western Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facility located at 3500 Reclamation Rd. New Hill, NC 27562. Water Treatment facility positions are designated as "critical positions", meaning employees are required to report to work during adverse weather or other emergency situations, to ensure continued operation of the facility. Additionally, this position has rotating "on-call" responsibilities. Typical Tasks Performs periodic calibration and observation checks of meters, chart recorders, electronic control valves, circuit boards, motor control centers, pumps, motors, and complicated instrumentation equipment; Maintains automatic controls at the water reclamation facilities to include troubleshooting and maintaining PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) hardware and software systems, interpreting ladder logic and control schematics, and diagnoses issues involving analog (4-20mA) and digital I/O circuits. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all electrical and electronic equipment, including emergency generators; Makes recommendations on equipment or instrumentation needed for use in upcoming budgets; Designs, tests, implements and maintains SCADA system; develops trends from SCADA historian; Maintains all records associated with instrumentation which include daily, weekly, and monthly flow charts; Responds to failure in any of the electrical systems and makes necessary replacements or repairs; Performs equipment upgrades and modifications; Purchases electrical and electronic material or equipment as necessary; Installs new equipment; pulls new service connections for motors, etc.; Maintains WRF fiber networks for equipment communication and CCTV; Serves as facility liaison, working with integrators and Town staff; Maintains Electronics parts inventory and backups of all facility PLC programs; Installs and terminates fiber optic cables, maintains network switches; Provides training to facility staff; Performs other job-related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic components of water and wastewater treatment plants and pump station equipment; comprehensive knowledge of personal computers; comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; comprehensive knowledge of the principles of radio transmitting and receiving theory; ability to read and understand schematic and circuit wiring diagrams; knowledge of PLCs and troubleshooting of hardware and software including 4-20 ma circuitry; ability to work independently; knowledgeable of fiber network communications equipment and is capable of troubleshooting network issues; ability to use and care for tools used in the testing and repair of instruments and control devices; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with co-workers and citizens; ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic problems; ability to work under adverse weather conditions. Physical Requirements Work in this class is medium to heavy work and may require exposure to various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and unpleasant surroundings. An employee must have the physical agility to move about freely including climbing stairs and ladders and crawling into tight spaces. Moderate to heavy lifting is required in performing the work. Visual acuity is necessary to perform paperwork, read gauges, and make repairs. An employee must also be able to hear, talk, and smell. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an associate's degree program with a degree in electronics and some experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic and electrical equipment in a large industrial or municipal environment. Must posses a Grade I or higher wastewater collection system operator's certification issued by the State of North Carolina, OR acquire this certification within 1 year of hire date (training provided). A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Occasional 12-Hour operational shift coverage in a fill-in capacity is required for this position. PREFERS: Experience working with electrical voltage up to 480 volts. Experience with single and three-phase voltage types.
