Salary: $23.84 - $29.25 Hourly Location : City of Winter Park Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202200521 Department: UTILITY MAINTENANCE Opening Date: 05/23/2025 Closing Date: 3/13/2026 4:00 PM Eastern Description Open Until FilledGENERAL PURPOSE: The Lift Station Mechanic is responsible for mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of lift stations and treatment plant equipment. This work is performed under close supervision - the incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions; work is checked frequently and is reviewed through observation of efficiency, safety, production, adherence to established policies and procedures, and results achieved. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:NOTE: The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position or to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance to ensure proper operation of wastewater pump stations, water/wastewater treatment plants, storm water collection and distribution systems and components. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of mechanical components and systems. Install, rebuild, and/or adjust equipment. Check and record all fluid levels and test run emergency generators on a weekly basis. Maintain station in clean and orderly condition. Perform lift station emergency on-call duties on a rotating basis. Perform other work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices and the ability to transmit such knowledge to subordinates. Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair and maintenance work. Working knowledge of electricity as it relates to electric motors and pumps. Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment and to detect apparatus malfunctions. Ability to tow/maneuver small and medium sized trailers. Ability to understand parts and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals. Ability to react and respond intelligently in emergency situations. Ability to remain on call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for after-hours repairs, emergencies, and other related concerns. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public. Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records. This position is performed with working knowledge - the incumbent has ability to recall and apply important and commonly-used information from relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field. Typical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of two years of related mechanical experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities, and other competencies required for the position may be considered.CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:NOTE: All certifications must be current at the time of application, and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License, Class B or higher with Hazmat endorsement, or have a CDL Permit and the ability to get the license within six months of hire. Possess and maintain a Florida Water Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Class "C" Wastewater Collection certification or have ability to obtain one within 1 year. Supplemental Information OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Physical This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force repetitively to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping. Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, and ladders. Ability to traverse about a variety of environments and obstacles throughout the city, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to position oneself to work in confined or difficult to reach spaces. Ability to manipulate objects, demonstrate small, precise movements, and operate necessary equipment such as small hand and power tools repetitively or continuously. Environmental Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals, etc. Sensory Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
