Fire Protection Designer

Position: Fire Protection Designer Location: Mobile, AL or Gulfport, MS Job Summary We are seeking a Fire Protection Designer to support the design and construction of fire protection and life safety systems for new and existing facilities. This position will work closely with Fire Protection Engineers, architects, and project teams to develop compliant, high-quality fire protection designs. Duties & Responsibilities: Provide fire protection design services in support of new construction and renovation projects Develop fire protection system layouts and detailed construction documents for: Fire sprinkler systems Fire suppression systems Fire alarm and mass notification systems Apply applicable codes and standards including NFPA, IBC, IFC, and local AHJ requirements Prepare plans, details, calculations, and specifications for life safety and fire protection systems Coordinate fire protection designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients Participate in design reviews and incorporate review comments into revised documents Review shop drawings and contractor submittals for compliance with design intent and applicable codes Assist with life safety evaluations including: Occupant load calculations Means of egress analysis Code compliance reviews Respond to RFIs and provide technical support during construction Conduct site visits, construction observations, and field verifications Assist with system testing, acceptance, and final commissioning activities Support QA/QC efforts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of design documents Required Skills & Abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience with AutoDesk software, including AutoCAD; Revit experience preferred Strong understanding of fire protection systems and life safety principles Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and codes High attention to detail with strong documentation skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and project teams Valid driver's license and ability to be insured Education & Experience: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Fire Protection, or related field (preferred) 3-6 years of experience in fire protection system design or drafting Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience with AutoDesk software, including AutoCAD; Revit experience preferred Strong understanding of fire protection systems and life safety principles Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and codes High attention to detail with strong documentation skills Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and project teams Valid driver's license and ability to be insured Experience with: Fire sprinkler systems Fire alarm systems Fire suppression systems Fire pumps and mass notification systems Working knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) and NFPA Codes and Standards NICET Fire Protection Engineering Technology certification (Level II-IV) preferred or ability to obtain Genesis Staffing provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
